It has always been said to find the best food on travel figure out where the locals eat. Well after being recommended by a few locals we knew we had to give Caliente Restaurant a try, and now we know why the locals would recommend this place.

We showed up for lunch and were lucky to get there before the crowds (of mainly all locals). The the service was great and the food was even better than expected. Both the wife and I agreed this might have been the best meal of our whole trip. In fact had we tried eating here earlier in the trip we would have most likely eaten here more it was that good.

Started with chips and salsa, which were very good. And of course homemade. But what I found and would be soon added to everything I ate there was the homemade hot sauce. If I could have figured a way to get this home safely I would. For the main course the wife order the chicken tacos and I ordered the shrimp Gordita. Both dishes were very large portions. And of course once again I added the homemade hot sauce to my meal.

All the food was extremely fresh and flavorful. As stated above wish we would have had more time to eat here more to try more of the dishes. So if you are in the area make sure you eat here, as it...

It's a great place to stop by and have a good bite to eat. We stopped in because the place we were looking for was closed and Caliente was very close by. It is right along the beach with great water views during the day. (I don't know why I didn't take pictures) All day there was the breeze coming off the water so you stay nice and cool. My group did drinks and appetizers so I can't speak for the dinner bit if it was as good as the chicken nachos, ceviche, and the children wings. You will be eating a great meal. The wings were cooked to golden brown and crispy. The sauce was served on the side BBQ which was tangy with a bit of sweetness to it. It was a good sauce but you could have the wings without it and be very happy. The nachos were a good sized portion with chicken sour cream and salsa and a side of jalapenos if you wanted them. And for the Ceviche it was excellent you could taste all the different flavors cilantro, lime, shrimp, and everything else in it was really good. I'm not a fish eater but it was Sam good. I do say this I wish I had gotten a dinner or lunch here to try more of their food. It might have been the sea air but all the food I had in Belize was good. So don't hesitate and stop in here...

The nachos here were so good! The only concern we had was when we paid the bill as we had 2 separate checks but the waiter accidentally charged my card on both of them. Luckily my mother noticed so they took it back, voided the second transaction from my card and recharged it to the second card. But then as we were leaving, a different guy came running back saying they had now accidentally voided both transactions from my card and were saying they needed to charge my card again so it would count for the first transaction. I didn't think that seemed right so I started searching my email and bank account trying to see what I could confirm before I gave the card back. In the time I was searching, I guess their credit card system caught up and it turns out the second charge was properly voided and the first charge had still been properly charged to my card and they let me know all was well. I think it was an honest mistake but had we not been paying attention, they would have charged me twice incorrectly. I hope this was a...

AMAZING. This is the place to go on Ambergris Cay. Best food. Best service. Best atmosphere. Bar none. This isn't just the best place I've been on the island, it's the best I've been to on any island. GO THERE. Its family ran by a husband and wife, even thier son helps run the place when they take a night off. We had fish, lobster, steak and pork tacos. The homade salsa and sauces were the best in my life. My wife wanted to take the bottle home. I had to stop her. Absolutely the best example of a Coconut curry ever. We had to eat here two nights in a row.

One of the best meals we had in Belize. We took fish we caught and they made fish tacos and three other preparations of fish for like $25US (enough for at least 6 people). Drinks were good and very affordable (beers were $3 US). The wait staff was attentive and the owner came out to make sure everything was perfect. We also went on “chicken drop” night (Thursday) and that was a blast, similar to bingo on the beach with chickens. It was a bit of a party on the beach area but the restaurant was still quite enough to have a good conversation. You should for sure eat here!
