I honestly have no earthly idea how this place has mostly good reviews. I ordered the grilled pork ribs (i tried to get coleslaw but they didn’t have any, whatever) and my boyfriend ordered chicken tenders. I should mention that our service was absolutely terrible, waitress doesn’t even know the menu and has to take it out of my hands to see what i’m ordering, hovers over me and stares after handing me the check. Food finally comes out and is looking good, boyfriends chicken tenders look pretty tasty, everybody’s excited. I take the first bite into my ribs to discover nothing but fat on a bone. Move onto another part, same thing. Pick through the ribs like I’m excavating for treasure to find nothing but gristle and fat on the bone. Meanwhile my boyfriend is enjoying some decent tenders. I feel pretty bad but decide to ask the waitress if I can get chicken tenders instead since they clearly messed up and gave me a grilled slab of fat. Whole staff stares at us like we have just taken a dump on the table. We are told they can’t do anything since the food was already cooked, pretty annoying but whatever, so I order some chicken tenders anyway since boyfriends looked so tasty.
Meanwhile, my piña colada tastes like it was blended with dish soap and I feel like maybe they’re trying to poison us. I get my tenders only to discover some grey, flaccid strips of undercooked chicken, nothing like what my boyfriend got earlier, which at best were decent. These were a completely different dish.
Bottom line, go someplace else. There are so many good, cheap places with good service to eat around San Pedro, and this place has none of...
Read moreMy brother and I just had easily the best dinner in San Pedro at My Secret Deli so I felt like I had to write a glowing review to get people to try this if they want to get away from the classic places on the main strip or beach road.
Location... Being away from major streets, this place is not touristy or trying to goat people into coming in with signs of deals, wifi or happy hours. This is a huge plus for me as I got tired quickly of these kind of places in San Pedro which cater waaay too much to tourists.
Atmosphere... The place is welcoming and cozy. Immediately a North Carolinan family who was on their way out gave us a speech about how they've been coming to this place for decades. They said the food was amazing so a high bar was set.
Service... The owner (who was also our waiter) was very, very kind. I asked him what he recommended I get and it was a winner
Food... As per his recommendation, I got the chicken quesadilla and my brother got the boneless breast of jerk. Both of these were the best things we ate on our 8 day stay in San Pedro. Really, it was that good. My brother and I didn't really say much to either other besides "dude, this is so good". Portion sizes were good - we weren't left feeling like we should have gotten an appetizer or dessert.
Other details... Very cheap compared to most places on the island. Credit cards accepted. (no Amex at the time we went)
In summary, we already have plans to go back for breakfast tomorrow. We wish we had discovered this place earlier in...
Read moreCame here for breakfast and dinner on the same day. We were recommended this place by our host since it’s a little on the cheaper side as far as restaurants go in San Pedro. The Belizean breakfast is good and it’s better if you get the fry jack. We don’t eat meat so the kitchen gave us fresh fruit instead. Coffee was charged per cup in our case. Not sure that’s how they normally do it. Total came to about $33 Belize dollars. Later that night I got a lobster burger which was just ok. It was a small piece of lobster tail with some sliced cheese. Burger and fries are about $25 Belize dollars. Overall, the value is better here than other restaurants near the...
