We stayed here 3 years ago and left a 5 star review. It was still a great time and a great property but it was not as spectacular as before. |It was clean inside and out – the grounds especially were very well maintained, the beach was raked at least once a day, the pool was clean and the beach chairs were always ready – and plenty of them. Beach/pool towels were available at the front desk. On the down side, the housekeeping was minimal. The first day all they did was make the bed, the second day, they brought towels, but didn’t take the used ones. We had to chase them down to get shampoo since we only started out with one small bottle and it was gone. They also never replaced the used glassware. None of this was terrible, just surprising for the price of the room.|Big, comfortable room with very nice view of the ocean (we had a “beachfront guest suite” which was on the second floor facing the beach) and a small private balcony. The second floor room had a very tall|natural palapa ceiling which was quite impressive and a nice mural and flower arrangements. The seaside and jungle rooms have a more secluded feel and were surrounded by tropical plants. I will say, the water pressure in our shower was VERY low. It made for a really long shower. |The restaurant food was still good, but the service could have been better. Often we waited for water (either originally or refill), and our check. Once, there was a large group taking all the server’s attention and he obviously forgot about us, so we finally left because they already had our room number. We try not to be in a rush, but sometimes we have somewhere to be, like diving ! Nice views from the restaurant which had options for indoor or outdoor dining. Also, plenty of other bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Highly recommend Gill-E’s and their Grouper sandwich and margaritas. Caroline’s, which was Caribbean food, was also very good and not too far on foot. |There are no mixed drinks available at the resort but there is wine and beer. And there was a grocery store with liquor very close by. |The dive center was well organized. Big boats but lots of people. We were on a boat with 20+ other people and whereas we had 6 people to a dive master, we were still diving the same area. So, lots of divers to avoid in the water and on the boat. They had people who’s dive gear was laying on the floor in the middle of the boat ! We saw the same thing happen the next day although we were not diving. I don’t know why they don’t take 2 boats since they’re only going about 5 minutes out – it’s not to save gas. Dixon was a great Dive Master and he did his best to keep us away from the other groups and he did a nice job of “baby-sitting” us with our gear and such. The reef is very close so surface intervals were done back at the resort which was handy. Rental gear was in good shape. |Golf cart rental was reasonably priced, well maintained and organized. We took a cart to Secret Beach and it was a...
Read moreThis was my second Scuba.com and this time our group stayed at Ramon's Village on San Pedro Island in Belize. I found this resort to be an amazing place to go for a week of diving. First the Resort: The resort arranged for our airfare from Belize city and back and even picked us up from the little airport on San Pedro. The resort is located adjacent to the airport but we had a beachfront room and were gone most of the day diving, so the airport noise did not affect us. The resort staff was friendly, attentive and many of them even learned our names after just one day. The resort was very clean and well attended the whole week were there. Our room was very CLEAN, pretty, and comfortable with excellent air conditioning and good water pressure in the shower. The bed and pillows were amazing! It was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. The resort is located next to a market that has basic supplies for snacks and sundries if needed. The pool is in the shade, so you have to go to the beach if you want sun. There is no hot tub on the property. The restaurant at the resort is Pineapple's. Pineapple's had a diverse menu, great daily specials, and tasty food at all meals. The only feedback I have for the restaurant is to offer lighter options at dinner like simple sandwiches because both my husband and I do not like to eat a heavy meal the night before a dive. The Dive Shop: Since we dove with Scuba.com our group had a dive boat to ourselves and two fantastic dive masters for the whole week. The boat was a typical, well maintained dive boat, the crew went above and beyond everyday, and the dock and locker facilities were steps from our room at the resort. Pete and Kris, our dive masters did a fantastic job with safety briefings, gear management and getting us to some truly memorable dive sites. It was my first time diving in Belize and it was spectacular the whole week. Most of the dive spots aren't far from the resort so they return to the resort between dives for the surface intervals. This made for a really fun time diving. The weather during our time was windy and pretty much every day there were HUGE swells which made getting on the boat from the water a challenge. The boat captains were exceptionally skilled at navigating the large swells and crew did an amazing job keeping us safe in very big water as we got back on the boat. We only missed one day of diving because of weather, but the dive shop worked with our group and offered make up dives later in the week. The dock/dive shop had rinse tanks and lockers available to manage our gear. The lockers have dive gear hangers and the shop provides the locks. Highlights of the dives for the week: lots of fishes, sharks, turtles (a couple varieties), eels, gorgeous formations/swim throughs and visibility was crystal clear. Best part was the captain lead a large pod of dolphins to our location while we were diving and the dolphins stayed and swam all around us for at least 20 min. Thanks for an amazing week of...
Read moreWe first visited 23 years ago and knew to expect change. No disappointment! First shout out goes to Hiro and Darwin who handle Ramon’s full day fishing/snorkeling trip. They are dedicated to getting you on the fish. We caught lots of snappers which became our lunch. On the way we snorkeled for Conch which was a great opportunity. On the Northern tip of the island is where we set up for lunch. There is a new restaurant there so if you have children who are not fond of fish or conch, the restaurant offers excellent cheeseburgers quesadillas and American food that all children would love. The captain, who did the cooking did an outstanding job in the food rival any food that we purchased at a restaurant he prepared a homemade ceviche, which was most excellent, and then cook the fish in a coconut butter sauce that turned out delicious. Sides were fantastic as well, so I would highly recommend these two guys if you’re looking to take any adventure from the dive shop. The property is set up like a tropical paradise with grass, huts, manicured beaches, and spacious accommodations. There are plenty of workers to make sure that the beaches were clean each and every day and they are free of all seaweed which was important because on our arrival, the storms had come in a little bit and they were taking it out as quick as it showed up to keep the beach, beautiful for all the guest. The service everywhere we went was excellent, but a few things to be aware they do not serve alcohol, alcoholic drinks, strictly beer and wine. Fanta soda is a big deal here so expect to see more of that than your traditional Pepsi type products. Other things to be aware of there are plenty of what they call sand fleas, which in the country we call them no seas and they do quite a bit so bring bug spray or something to treat those little pesky bites when you receive them. Ramon‘s now offers golf cart rentals as well, which is very easy process and my advice would be if you want to explore any parts of the island. It’s a great investment if you were going to book excursions each and every day from the resort, the card is not necessary as you will not use it and there are other ice cream, shops, wine, stores, and restaurants as well as grocery stores within an easy walking distance. So the only reason to rent a cart if you want to explore the regions of the island, such a secret beach, which I would recommend the property offers a meal plan for breakfast which might be worthwhile if you are a family that does eat breakfast each and every day I would not do it for lunch or dinner as you would be giving up opportunities to taste better food prepared nearby. This is a tropical oasis....
