I was looking forward to a cozy night out with my partner, and after considering several great options in the area, I decided on Restaurante Cortiço Carioca for dinner. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment.
First, we were seated in the outdoor area, which, at first, seemed like a lovely spot. However, there was a group of about ten children running around and screaming as if it were a playground. While I absolutely love kids, this wasn’t a park or a summer camp—it was a restaurant where people came to dine and enjoy a meal. Of course, we understand that the restaurant isn’t responsible for parents who don’t set boundaries, but if that area was intended as a space for children to play, they really shouldn’t be seating diners there for dinner service. The noise level made conversation impossible, and another couple nearby seemed just as uncomfortable and ended up leaving.
Hoping for a better experience, we moved inside—only to find that a live performance was happening. I genuinely appreciate live music, but when I go to a restaurant, I expect it to be background ambience, not a full-blown concert. The only available table was right next to the musicians, and the volume was so overwhelming that we couldn’t hear each other at all. What made it even more frustrating was that when I called to make a reservation, no one mentioned that there would be a live performance that night. Had I known, I would have chosen a different night or another restaurant entirely.
To make matters worse, the staff seemed completely overwhelmed. When we sat down, our table was still covered in leftover food and used napkins from the previous diners—highly unhygienic. No one came to clean it, and we had to sit there in silence, unable to talk over the loud music, while we quickly ate just so we could leave as soon as possible.
Overall, this was a deeply disappointing experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant and...
Read moreEating at this beautiful restaurant was an amazing experience. The place had an amazing charm to it, which made me feel like I was at someone's home rather than a restaurant. The backyard or patio was simply beautiful. When it came to the good, I absolutely loved the feijoada. It may have been the best feijoada I ever had. I also tried the grelhado misto, which was a mix of bbq food and sides. The portions were very large which was nice to see, and the food was delicious. The only downside, was the BBQ chicken, which was pink in the center. Knowing that raw chicken is a health hazard, that's the only reason I'm not giving this...
Read moreMe and my sister went here to grab a little bite to eat after visiting the iconic Escadaria Selarón steps. Cortico is spacious with indoor and outdoor space available. We tired the shrimp empanadas, fried rib, cod ball and 2 Caipirinhas (one regular and one with Vodka). I enjoyed all three appetizers and my drink had me feeling nice lol. They had a spicy sauce that was good and even better when mixed with the BBQ sauce they provided. Our server Kel was friendly and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. We will definitely...
