Mandarim Jockey — Restaurant in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

This restaurant is hidden away next to the Jockey club - in fact, you'll miss the entrance to the parking lot ($) it if you blink, because it sits right past a curve on Bartolomeu Mitre and if you're not ready, you'll blow right past it. It doesn't help that Waze currently and erroneously directs you to an entrance to the Jockey Club itself, another 50-60 meters up the road. Uber drivers consistently have difficulty finding you there. This restaurant is one of the biggest restaurants in Rio - if you're familiar with the city, you know that the vast majority are small and cramped. Not this one. It can absorb multiple large groups with ease. The decor is also striking and visually pleasing. I was there for a birthday party and did not get to sample much of the menu - but from what I did, I will say that my experience was mixed. The hot Philadelphia roll I got was bland and boring; another one (the roast salmon roll, I think) was quite tasty. The tempura shrimp appetizer was good but slightly soft and undercooked but came with a nice selection of dipping sauces. The staff are generally helpful but harried most of the time, as the size of this place attracts large groups for birthday parties, etc. and as anyone who has ever waited tables knows, groups can be difficult to deal with. A experiência no restaurante, como turistas, não foi agradável. Chegamos tarde ao estabelecimento e estávamos com criança, então passou a ser uma opção pois dizia que tem área kids e ficava aberto até as 2 da manhã.

Comida: pedimos 2 itens diferentes do menu, a saber:

CARPACCIO DE SALMÃO TRUFADO 20 lâminas de salmão finalizadas com raspa de limão siciliano, flor de sal, azeite trufado e ovas de massago. Opinião: prato bem apresentado, porém decepcionante ao experimentar. Os peixes pareciam estar frescos, mas estavam sem sabor. Não foi possível identificar o azeite trufado, não se via as raspas de limão (vide foto) e o único item que se destacava no paladar era a flor de sal. Até o shoyu que disponibilizaram era fraco e tinha pouca interferência no paladar.

BATATA MANDARIM TRUFADA Batata rústica com farofinha de bacon, queijo meia cura gratinados e azeite trufado. Opinião: aqui começo a crítica falando um pouco do serviço. Um prato completamente diferente da primeira opção e o garçom não ofereceu troca dos pratos e nem talheres. Como comer batata frita com queijo utilizando hashi? Vamos lá, mais uma decepção. Prato completamente diferente do que é descrito no cardápio. Não há farofa de Bacon (eles foram colocados em lascas) e também não há nenhum toque de trufa. Infelizmente não tirei foto.

Serviço: como já dito acima, uma falta de atenção no atendimento e mesmo com a casa vazia era necessário ficar chamando o garçom que se manteve a distância o tempo todo. Ponto positivo: sempre atendeu com educação e presteza (limpando a mesa e servindo as bebidas).

Ambiente: a casa é bonita e oferece um conforto com mesas grandes, porém deixou a desejar no espaço kids que fica na área externa (na saída), gerando desconforto e insegurança em deixar nossa filha lá, sozinha. Entendo que o horário não favoreceu, pois deve ter alguém ali fazendo o controle das crianças durante o dia (assim espero) mas a localização deste espaço não agradou até mesmo pensando em uma visita diurna por estar muito próximo ao estacionamento e...

We got to the restaurant and there were two dead cockroaches on the floor. Subsequently, we asked for water and they said there was no filtered water in the restaurant, which is against the law. We called the manager and he gave a poor excuse when questioned if the water was potable or not. He claimed it was good enough for adults but not for kids (amazing knowledge of biology involved in this argument). In the end, we mentioned the law and they provided some water that was supposedly and hopefully clean. In the end, food was average and the price was quite high. I do not recommend this restaurant, "Casa Camolese" that is just next door, is a much better...
