Masi is a Mediterranean / Japanese fusion restaurant inside the Hotel Nacional in Rio de Janeiro. The restaurant offers a magnificent view of a quieter part of the Rio de Janeiro beach and the concept for the decor is all about cherry blossoms. The restaurant is truly beautiful. We also received excellent customer service from all of the staff, including the bartender who gave us in-depth explanations regarding some of their cocktail offerings. The two cocktails we landed on were the “My/Snake” and the “Ushi/Ox.” My / Snake was sweet and even included a small chocolate piece to top it off. We loved the Ushi/Ox as well, because it was the perfect blend of slightly sweet and a bit of a spicy aftertaste. We loved our drinks so much that we ordered seconds! For appetizers, we ordered Caramelized Shrimp Popcorn and the two varieties of ceviche offered: Ceviche Masi and Pear and Mushroom Ceviche. Both were very fresh and very diverse. The latter, in particular, had a really unique flavor that we had never Experienced before (in the best way possible)! In terms of our main dishes, we opted for the Creamy Octopus Rice with Shrimp and Fettucine With King Crab and Shrimp. Both were creamy and delicious and had very generous portions of seafood. It was my wife’s birthday and she was offered a desert platter on the house which consisted of a delicate coconut panna cotta with fruit sauce. Everything was exquisite, service was excellent and prices were...
Read moreJust had dinner here and I wasn’t pleased at all. Upon sitting down the waiter never introduced himself or welcomed us. While I understand that there may be a language barrier he could’ve at least tried. He seemed to be more occupied with the table behind us. We started with the wagyu and salmon both were ok and the drinks that we got were really good. For our mains we got the beef pasta and shrimp/crab pasta, both were not the best and I wouldn’t suggest it. Shrimp shells were still on some but not others and there really wasn’t much crab. At no point did the waiter ask if we needed anything or were ok but he was always near us. Prior to going to the resturant I messaged them to let them know it was my boyfriend’s bday and asked if they did anything special. They said dessert and I said perfect, sounds good. I thought they noted the account but the waiter knew nothing about when I asked him. Then someone came over and said they needed to take a picture of my boyfriend’s ID. Had I known that prior I would’ve sent a pic so everything could run smoothly. I’m unsure if this is something they do all the time but it seems a bit tacky to do it in front of the birthday persons face. I’m a bit taken back as I’m also staying at the hotel that it’s in and have got nothing but great service, I was really excited but I won’t be back. I’m unsure what the issue was, idk if it was a race thing (we’re black) or what but I would not...
Read moreWe were sat by the entrance ,highly visible under well lit lights. We waited awhile to be greeted as there is no dedicated waiter for tables. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Drinks were not great, and one was returned after a sip. The waiter asked the manager to remove the drink from the bill, manager look at my daughter and wife with a face. The rest of the night was the same. Waited to order dinner, waited to order more drink, nobody came to check on us. Plates were left on the tables, had to ask twice to room things. Bills was R$800. Not a great experience. Save yourself some hassle. Maybe go for the view but don't go hungry.. Better options...
