Really wanted to like this place. It’s stupidly overpriced (Embassy restaurant much better value for money, half price with much better quality and service) and service at ox club is okay at best.
The kitchen team at Ox club have good basic skills (ie they can grill a steak to the right temperature, they know how to sear scallops), but somehow some dishes are over complicated and not well executed.
appetisers were the best part of the meal. Foie gras was good Scallops had too many components that just didn’t match one another. What a shame Prawn Ceviche: why would you put cheap salad cream inside a ceviche, especially at US$16?
Soup: we tried both the dashi consommé and corn soup. The corn soup was the better of the two, but the crab meat inside was not fresh.
Main courses: we had a rib eye steak and mushroom risotto.
Steak was cooked to medium rare as asked. But a slight taste of baking soda was on the meat, which suggests a tenderising agent was used
Risotto was unevenly cooked (some rice was undercooked, some was slightly softer). I don’t know if the correct rice was used, and it was too heavy in its use of cream. We couldn’t eat this and asked for this dish to be cancelled.
Our waiter was very sexist and was providing more service to me and basically ignoring my wife or service her last, when she actually booked the table (and would therefore be the “host”). The only exception was my wife’s still water was poured for her, then I was forgotten, no one poured my sparkling water for me for 10 minutes. Also, “local” still water was not made an option to us whereas a local Cambodians were given plastic bottles of still water at their table which I could clearly see.
Wine by glass programme only had a few entry level wines by the glass. I would have been happy to have ordered a better glass of wine if available. There are some good $20-30 wines by the glass at embassy which were worth ordering. Nothing over $7 and limited choice.
We simply decided to skip dessert. Overall damage with the risotto removed from the bill, US$150.00+ too much money for a meal at a restaurant that aims to be the best in town. I believe it was 3-4 times overpriced. Better value can be had elsewhere, especially when the restaurant wasn’t busy.
One star as the value and experience didn’t line up with the money paid, and it didn’t live up to the expectations provided by other...

The restaurant is in a nice hotel and spa. Beautiful place. We were able to walk around the hotel before dinnerand had a great time right away.
Crew was very polite and attentive. A bit of a language barrier made some of the communication awkward and difficult. They gave us some complementary nibble-size foods which were nice surprise but was not really notable taste-wise.
Now, the most important part, the food. We ordered the Salmon Salad and Burratta as appetizers. Our mains were Wagyu Tenderloin and the Chateaubriand.
Complimentary bread and butter was pleasant, bread was warm and crunchy on the outside and soft inside. 3 kinds of butter (tomato, truffle, garlic) was served which made the set alot more interesting.
Burratta was the better of our 2 appetizers, it was served with pesto and tomato and upon our request we were given some toasted bread to have with it. Salmon Salad's greens were fresh and crunchy. Salmon was above average in taste and wasn't as salty as normal smoked salmon.
Wagyu Tenderloin served medium wellwas nicely charred and tender. Between this and the Chateaubriand, we both liked this alot more. Given that the price of the Chateaubriand is more than 2x the Wagyu, it is very hard to recommend this over the other.
The Chateaubriand was dry and chewier than I would've liked even though I asked for medium rare. A bit of a caveat, I don't have an apples to apples basis for comparison as I haven't ordered or eaten Chateaubriand steak before so I don't know if this is due to the cut and usual preparation. The Chilli Dip and Khmer Chilli sauces improved the meat...
Read moreWhat an experience, the best restaurant we have had the pleasure of dining in.
I booked a table weeks in advance of my holiday as it was my wife’s birthday. I wanted to take her somewhere special and knew this was the place. On arriving we were blown away by the quality and tasteful decor. We were led to our table that was very well positioned for our intimate dining and the staff had also prepared the table specially for my wife birthday with printed place cards and rose petals all over the table. The length the staff went to to ensure we both enjoyed our experience was above and beyond.
Now we are already blown away and the food experience was still to be sampled.
Wow wow wow 🤩
The homemade bread with truffle butter, garlic butter and sundried tomato butter was presented beautifully and all tasted amazing. We then had complimentary ravioli with foam which was is a beautiful bowl and was delicious. Out comes the steak 🥩 cooked to absolute perfection and accompanied by fantastic side dishes and sauces, our best steak to date. We then shared a cheesecake although very full at this stage. It was like all other dishes, presented beautifully and also the portion size was not too much as the quality of the dish is in the ingredients. The cheesecake was very well planned to not look like your traditional cheesecake but have all the flavours.
The service from all the staff was phenomenal and very professional. A special shout out to Ravy who looked after us for the night and also gave us a quick tour of the hotel at our request.
I highly recommend this restaurant for a very pleasurable dining experience with incredibly delicious...
