We were hungry and passing by Abbotsford and wondering what to eat and saw Mr. India restaurant. The appearance from parking lot is not appealing, my wife sent me to go inside and have a look and decide to eat there or not, went inside and looked clean with 6 or 7 tables. We ordered Shahi paneer, Prawns curry, Rogan josh, Basmati rice and garlic Naan. Beside Basmati rice that tasted like other places, the rest were delicious and well above most places we've tried Indian food. Three stews had very generous amount of tasty sauce. All dishes were hot and stayed hot despite the fact we waited 7-8 min before eating (we ordered Masala chai and wanted to have it before the food). Shrimp was fresh, juicy and well beyond my expectation. I would give it 5 star just for shrimp alone, too many places fail miserably when they make a dish with it. At first we didn't ordered Naan (we try not to eat more than what we should) but after having those plates on our table decided to go for it. My suggestion, do yourself a favor and order Garlic Naan no mater what, it's awesome, thin, fresh and comes in hot then dip it in any stew you order. We will definitely go back again, it looks like a family run business that they try hard to do their best.
Since my original post, we have visited twice more and tried couple of other things. Instead of tea we got Mango Lassi with recommendation of our server, I'm glad we listened to her. Beside being delicious it also helps if your food is a bit spicier than what you usually have. Prawns goan Curry and Mango chicken were awesome. In our latest visit we tried both garlic bread and sweet Mango coconut Naan. It was delicious but between the two, garlic Naan still is hands down a winner (we ordered a second garlic Naan, you really can't think about dieting while there). Staff are very polite and friendly, we have tried few fancy Indian restaurants before, to us taste wise Mr. India is above them all. Went again last weeks after couple of month (it's almost an hour drive from our home) and again they hit it out of park, everything is so delicious, at first I was telling my friends what to have when they go there but now I realize it was a mistake because everything is tasty and done right, so now my recommendation is just try whatever you see in the menu and then try something else next time till you've had all...
Read moreWe went to Mr. India with high expectations on their food. We had went once before and got pretty good samosas.
We went back with the intent to try their butter chicken which we had seen people raving about. The first five minutes we spent waiting for someone to greet us and show us to one of their many empty booths (besides the one they had somehow neglected to clean up before we even got there. These old plates were seriously there until we were eating.)
We hastily ordered because he seemed apathetic and lazy, leaving a pitcher of tapwater and a couple empty cups on the table. Upon receiving our food we didn't see that guy at all between then and leaving. The butter chicken itself seemed overrated. It didn't taste like butter chicken, the taste more closely resembled that of a can of Campbell's condensed tomato soup with some spices and weirdly perfect cubes of a soft meat I assumed was chicken. The rice was good, and the naan helped a little, but the butter chicken was not enjoyable in the slightest.
We didn't see a bill so we sat there awkwardly, sipping on water until we decided to go up to the counter to pay. It took so long for a single employee to emerge that thoughts of walking out seemed viable, but we stayed anyways to pay.
The guy came out, juggling three separate orders while also trying to ring us in on the till. His hands were clearly bright orange, I assumed he was cooking but it didn't occur to me til later if he washed his hands between handling food and money since he seemed to be the primary guy at the cash.
We left, and the worst of our trip came about 20-30 minutes into our hour-long walk home. We suffered for worst food poisoning imaginable. It was a gastrointestinal nightmare and awful nausea and vomiting that almost put my girlfriend into emergency on a saline drip. All in all, I won't be returning to Mr. India. The $40 we paid to have our digestive systems wrecked wasn't...
Read moreI was craving for chai so Me and my husband walked in and were guided to a seat by the beautiful girl Instantly I told her my order was 2 cup masala Chai . This was my only order. She asked if we need anything else and My husband told her one pound fish pakora And she said OK and walked away. Within 2 minutes she came back and asked if we need anything else I asked her if the Chai was ready and she said yes it's being cooked Then I asked her if they made mooli parada And we ordered 2 where she insisted that we take a thaali and we agreed There was a big order where we only went for a masala Chai She started bringing out order She brought our fish pacora. I asked her if I could have the Chai and she said yes she is bringing it. I do not recommend this...
