I'm here to update my review so that it reads a bit better, and to give more stars, because in fairness, wherever they source their eggs from is phenomenal, and they cook them properly to order which is never easy!
The experience I had a Jams was less than spectacular. Maybe they were having an off day, these things happen.
Our food was cold, the hashbrowns were cold and soggy and the sausage wasn't warm or appealing either.
I ordered a side of Hollandaise and it came out cold as well.
We were not offered any condiments, and when my father asked, the server seemed like it was an inconvenience. The jam was really runny that day, and again, maybe just an off day, but it just wasn't very good that day.
We were asked if we wanted takeout containers and we declined. When asked about why we said we weren't very fond of the food. The waitress must have been having an off day (I had been served by her previously at a different establishment and her service was always fantastic) because she just shrugged and handed us the bill.
I can't speak to what was said by my father after that as I went to wait outside while he paid.
Perhaps my initial review was a bit harsh. The experience was fresh and I was shocked by it because I had been really excited to try Jams for MONTHS. And I should have added that I do understand that businesses have bad days. I didn't feel the need to further reach out to staff, I had already mentioned that I didn't really like my breakfast as it was cold, and did not get a response.
It was not busy when we went in. There was us and maybe one or 2 other people in there, so not busy, but it was mid weekday mid morning and again, I can't stress enough how much I understand what it's like to have a bad day.
I cannot stress enough though how good the eggs themselves were, I don't know where they source them but they're fantastic. I'm not sure if they're still the same now but the yolks were so dark they were almost red. They were fantastic.
I cannot deny that Jams tries to be present in the community and they try to do good things, and I'm always happy to see when local businesses do well, or when my friends try them and enjoy the food.
I do not appreciate how the owner of Jam's handled my negative review here. Instead of reaching out to me directly, or responding on here to my review, to say "hey, I get that you had a bad experience, but I would really appreciate it if you could give us another chance, or consider changing or removing your review, because bad reviews can really hurt a small business, and everyone has bad days", the owner decided to go a different route. And that's okay. I understand why he was upset by the review. I would be upset too. His business is his livelihood.
So take what I say here with a grain of salt.
I encourage people reading reviews to take any negative reviews with a grain of salt. If you think the business looks good and you want to try them, I encourage you to do it. And leave a review.
I've been hearing really good things about Jams lunch and dinner items. I also understand his burgers are phenomenal.
He also carries Donut Man donuts, which are AMAZING.
I hope your experience is...
Read moreThis was a sadly disappointing experience. My daughter’s order was supposed to come with the unlimited hashbrowns, but none were offered. She said her food tasted good, though. I ordered gf pancakes, which the menu said would come with butter, syrup, whipped cream and jam. The server placed just plain pancakes in front of me. I asked for something to put on them - perhaps butter and syrup, at least - and I was given enough butter for only one pancake. The syrup wasn’t very tasty, so I waited for our server to return so I could ask for jam. But, the server never returned. My coffee cup sat empty and my pancakes got cold. We waited. And waited. And when we were obviously done, finally our server came to take our plates. I explained that I would have liked something more to spruce up the pancakes, but now that they were cold, I would just take them to go. I was told that it was up to me to ask for toppings when I ordered and that the menu is confusing. So, I gently suggested that if the menu is confusing, then perhaps the server should ask what toppings I might like. Then I said we would take the bill and asked if I could have some jam to go with the pancakes I was taking home. I didn’t add a tip to the machine payment (sometimes I prefer to leave a cash tip, rather than adding it on the card). The server took a look at the payment, obviously saw there was no tip added, and told me they would not be bringing me any jam and to have a nice day. I was shocked at the rudeness! I realize they were short-staffed - the other server made a point of telling numerous customers that fact. But, we weren’t being impatient. Nor unreasonable. I just wanted a nice breakfast. Now I know that Jam’s is not the place...
Read moreJust finished having breakfast here. It was very good! I had a regular breakfast, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. My wife had eggs benny. Mine was great. The eggs are nice and cooked properly (I like over medium eggs, which are tough to get correct and they were perfect), the bacon was cooked properly as well, crispy and not at all like a lot of restaurant bacon - cooked in an oven and all limp and anemic. The toast was nice, seemed more high quality than the usual food service bread as well. The hash browns were absolutely delicious! They are shredded style, like at Denny’s, but they are a lot better and really tasty, I had seconds (they are bottomless hash browns!). Interestingly the least good part about the dish was the jam, it was alright but nothing special, not quite as sweet and a little bit more bitter than usual jam, but it was still not bad. My wife’s eggs Benedict was also good, the hollandaise sauce was good, she has had better she said but it was tasty and the egg was poached well. Service was fast, and friendly, and the price wasn’t bad. It’s a nice addition to the dining options in Airdrie. They don’t seem to have a lot of kids options but you can find something for them if they like normal breakfast foods. Don’t go here expecting some really high end restaurant, it’s a decent local breakfast place that elevates the normal breakfast options slightly. Well...
