Went to Old Town yesterday with 6 other people - at my suggestion. This used to be one of my favorite places to go and there were always 5 - 10 of us on Thursdays after cards. We did once a month. I always got the pizza with breakfast bacon and mushroom. Many times, I am told they don't have breakfast bacon and I always correct them and say you have to ask the cook. Grace was our server and she argued with me about the order my friend was putting in and I finally said to her "I don't want to argue with you". My friend went ahead and ordered her meal. Then I told Grace that I would like a medium pizza. Mushroom on 1/2, pepperoni on the other half, and Breakfast Bacon on the whole pizza. I pointed out to her that the difference in price was $17 for med and $23 for large for a two item pizza. She agreed so I changed it to a large. Lunch for tomorrow. When my pizza came it was not Breakfast Bacon it was bacon crumble. I told her it was wrong and she said that was what they use when someone ordered Breakfast Bacon and that if I wanted sliced bacon I would have to order back bacon. I said no - I order it this way all the time and Breakfast Bacon is sliced bacon - at which time she told me they didn't have sliced bacon and she went on to tell me again about the crumble. I said - never mind, I am not here to argue with you. I begrudgingly ate the amount of pizza I wanted and was given a box for the rest to take home. Then I got the bill and it was for $23 for #3 AND $3 for Breakfast Bacon. I asked her why she was charging me for Breakfast Bacon when I didn't get Breakfast Bacon. She again explained that they use bacon crumble when I order Breakfast Bacon. I discussed our conversation about the different cost of the med and the large and she said yes but then there is an additional charge for the bacon. I again said - I am not arguing with you. I used my credit card and she got the exact tip she deserved $0. I am very upset about the way I was treated in front of my friends - at a restaurant I frequent and that I had recommended to them.
They have bacon on the menu for pizza, they have it for BLT's and they do have it in the restaurant. Not sure why this is such a big deal to get what you are ordering on your pizza.
Below is the 5* rating I gave them a number of years ago. I have been going here for a long time, but I don't need the stress of arguing with a waitress about my meal, them getting it wrong and then overcharging me. I will not be going to Old Town again.
5* rating I gave Old Town in 2020.
I absolutely LOVE their menu. Great food and amazing pizza. We went there the last night that Restaurants were allowed to be open before the lock down because of Covid 19. An employee was walking around offering take out menu's because even though we can't go in we can still order for pick-up or delivery. Then when the waitress came by and saw we had the take out menu, she advised us that they will be running the daily special for take out while we are not allowed in. She said the price would be half of the difference between the regular price and the...
Read moreWent here tonight for a drink and a bit of food. We were a little uncertain, as we had never been here, and hadn't been asked for a drink order within a timely manner. The waitress, "Colleen", as it said on our receipt was incredible! She saw us and asked if we had been helped. When we said no, she jumped at the opportunity to serve us! She was on the ball! Like really, really on the ball. She asked for our drink orders and knew we had been there long enough to glance at the menu. My husband got the steak sandwich, and before he could even finish asking for a side of gravy, Colleen knew exactly what he wanted. Beat him to it! I had the cajun prawns with garlic toast, and we split a basic, small cheese pizza just to try it at its simplest. They also had one of my husband's favorite beers, Coors Banquet, so he had that. I went for coolers and when I asked what they had, and found out they had Peach flavored Mike's, my jaw dropped! As soon as I expressed my excitement, Colleen definitely helped encourage me to try it! She even stuck around for my first sip! 😂
This place has its reputation for a reason. The pizza was amazing! It reminded us of like a Boston Pizza pizza, mixed with a small Italian restaurant's pizza. I loved the fact that there wasn't sauce dripping out the sides of my pizza. There was just enough to moisten the dough and add some flavor. Two kinds of cheese on top, as it should be! The cheese pull was incredible!
My husband's last experience with steak almost turned him away from steak forever. This completely changed his mind! The steak was an even thickness, which allowed for even cooking and it was done beautifully. He has said that the steak was only comparable to Alexander's Steak House and that it was delicious and tender!
My one and only gripe was that my prawns still had some shell pieces mixed in which could have been dangerous had I accidentally swallowed them. Luckily it was only 3 or 4 small pieces and it was easily remedied. The cajun seasoning was slightly warm, and went really well with the lemon and garlic toast! Soaking up all the cajun goodness was amazing! The prawns were also cooked nicely.
Any good waitress always plugs dessert. If you can tell a customer they want dessert, 9 times out of 10, they will absolutely order dessert! The chocolate cake was tall, elegant and massive! The ganache on top was just heavenly! Too rich to finish, but a lovely way...

Accessibility: Despite its evident popularity, resulting in the hustle and bustle reminiscent of esteemed establishments, visitors can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to parking. Though usually a challenge due to its constantly occupied spots, we had the good fortune to easily secure a space for our vehicle.
Ambiance: Upon entrance, one is immediately met with the lively atmosphere of the place. To the left, a queue of eager diners awaits, while the right reveals the bar — our chosen destination. While it took a brief moment to find seating amidst the vibrant crowd, we managed to procure an outdoor spot that promised a change of environment. The setting seemed to buzz with an effervescent energy that makes for a promising dining experience.
Service: Regrettably, our encounter with the service left much to be desired. Our young waitress's initial oversight of providing a single menu for two patrons hinted at an evening that might not meet our expectations. For two individuals who take pride in exploring the gastronomic landscape of the Calgary region, such oversights can prove disconcerting. While errors are a part of every journey, it was her demeanor, particularly towards one of us, that felt off-putting. There was an underlying tone of disregard, not so much in speech but rather in her overall disposition. Additionally, an incident involving a noticeably unclean glass only exacerbated our reservations about the service quality.
Cuisine: The culinary offerings were satisfactory but not groundbreaking. The wings, while commendably crispy, were somewhat on the drier side. On a brighter note, the fries showcased a commendable balance of crispness and flavor.
Overall Impression: OLD town pizza house bar & grill is clearly a favorite among the local populace, evidenced by its overflowing clientele. Its location is undeniably appealing, and the ambiance is bustling, offering a promise of a delightful evening. However, our experience was marred by service inconsistencies and culinary outcomes that did not fully hit the mark. The establishment has potential but would benefit from a more meticulous approach to service training and food...
