Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Ajax

Server was fantastic, place was nice and clean but empty, but the food was very very weak. Our family of 4 (2A2C) stopped in for lunch and the place was clean and nice looking but had maybe 7 or 8 tables in the place so it was clear that it was not a busy place at lunch. I'm not sure if that was the reason it was so laid back but it was none the less. Our server Cheryl C was wonderful! Pleasant, fun with the kids, attentive, got us in and out as best she could (as she knew we didn't have a ton of time to sit around), and was the highlight of our visit. The food on the other hand was a real let down. kids chicken bites (actually fingers) and fries were good, kids pizza and apple sauce was ok as the pizza crust was more like bread (as it was even identified by my 6 yr old) but whatever...it was edible and not offensive. The oriental (very very dated term) chicken wrap was decent enough but my chicken ranch sandwich was horrendous. It tasted like fish as it was cooked in the same fryer as their fish sandwich's halibut. Loaded with fresh tomato and lettuce etc.? You bet but the chicken (a really thin piece in dark greasy batter) tasted just like fish from a fish and chips and as such was inedible. It was happily taken off the order but I doubt it was a problem that was taken seriously as I was told "oh, really? I haven't heard that before." Bottom line, the place was clean and friendly but don't expect much from this...

I am writing to share my disappointment on our takeout experience with Applebee's Friday evening. I was celebrating date night by ordering out and chose Applebee's because it was open, close by with reasonable prices. We have eaten there before with no issues. Our service was prompt and friendly. We ordered two medium rare 7oz Sirloin steaks, two salads & two fries. The salads & fries were fine but our steak orders were not. One of the steaks was not cooked long enough. Not medium rare, but full red and required more cooking. The second steak was fine.

I paid $111.16 for this food and I made a conscious decision to support your restaurant. There is no reason to have two identical orders with one steak so undercooked. This indicates neglectful food safety supervision. How can this be justified especially nowadays.

I stopped eating when I started to cut bright red chunks of meat. I worried for my safety & decided to finish cooking the steak myself. I could’ve gotten sick undercooked and with our city being in a pandemic situation there are extra risks at hand having to see medical care. You have to put zero effort in the food preparation to make this kind of error.

I know your establishment is not known for its steak, but we thought at best it would lack flavour not cooking. Needless to say I will not be ordering from Applebee's again, and will be letting my friends and family to know that this was THE WORST...

Highlight of the evening was the friendliness and helpfulness of the waitress. She seemed to be very comfortable and natural at it. I had a great meal - the BBQ Pulled Pork tacos, however there's never as much meat in the food delivered (at ANY restaurant) as there is in the picture in the menu. Priced reasonably but don't make the same mistake I did and order a side of coleslaw when it already comes with coleslaw. Somehow I missed this in the description and unfortunately the waitress (her only fault) didn't point it out to me. My companion had the Cowboy Burger but said he would never order it again - too salty. Ingredients all of the salty variety, on top of ordering fries especially which are prone to saltiness. His burger sure did look good though! Hand formed patties by the look of it. The worst part was the order of 10 wings I asked for to go, for my son. When I got home with them, the wings were scrawny little things and came with 3 little celery sticks and ranch dressing. So not worth the $16 it cost. Disappointment. My son didn't enjoy them because there was no meat. Companion's coffee was so-so...but we realize it's not a 'coffee' type of place. Alcoholic beverages are very reasonably priced. Atmosphere was nice, moderately busy for a Tuesday evening. Bathroom not so clean. I would go back and either order those tacos, or maybe the fish tacos or a couple of other things that...
