Rave to 1979 Taphouse & Grill for a memorable St. Patrick's Day dinner. The food was great, and the service from Harli & Ru was absolutely spectacular!
This was my first time here. There was a large selection of appetizers that it took us a while to decide. We've settled on the Drunken Mussels (immersed in Guinness beer mixed with onions, tomatoes and spices) with the freshly baked bread cut into good sizes for dipping. Very nice aroma and flavour of the sauce.
The dry ribs were amazing. They were lightly seasoned and cooked just right. The Calamari with the signature battered squid, battered jalapenos, red onions was tasty. It went so well with their signature dipping sauce.
Soup of the day was a homestyle Potato Bacon Soup. It was very creamy and loaded with potato and bacon .... delicious!
The Prime Rib with the mashed potatoes filled with herbs and spices was out of this world. I really enjoyed how none of their dishes were salty, just right. (At the Keg, I find all their meat and vegetables are loaded with so much sodium that you can hardly taste the flavour of the food)
The Sirloin Steak was very well marinated and cooked to perfection with the grill marks for that extra taste. The steak was juicy and not burnt or dry on the bottom. The baked potatoes was excellent and went well with their freshly made bacon pieces and green onions.
Despite being a busy Saturday night; Harli & Ru ensured our food came out hot and timely. From the appetizers to the main course to the bill. They have checked up on us continuously as well as the other guests there to ensure everyone enjoys their time here. They had plenty of staff members tonight to provide excellent customer service for everyone.
Thank you 1979 Taphouse & Grill; We'll see you next time for dinner, this time we'll make room...
Read moreWas in town overnight and decided to try out this place. The patio, dining room, and lounge areas are all very nice and cozy... Very inviting actually.
However, the staff definitely need to improve their customer service. I was greeted by a gentleman, who I assume was a host. I don't think he meant to come off as brash but he was.
Then my server seemed annoyed at my presence. She cut me off with abrupt replies twice before I could finish either my sentences. All of this really took away from the inviting atmosphere that I previously mentioned. It took 10 minutes before my server returned to even ask if I wanted anything to drink. By this point, I had enough time to decide on my entire order.
I ordered a ribeye steak which was obviously previously frozen and the steak was very chewy and not tender whatsoever. It did taste good and was cooked to the right doneness though. The sides were all good and the beer was nice and cold. Overall, the price I paid for the dinner was not worth it.
I won't be going back, which is too bad, because it had...
Read moreUpdate 3. 4th visit. Place is hit or miss on steak quality. Last striploin I had was old like stanky old. ... And was drowned in lemons to hide it. What in the actual.....! If you have other options. Head elsewhere. Staff is excellent still.
Updated review still an excellent staff. With great service. One star up for their excellent 👌 steak tonight. 10oz striploin and they nailed it. Steak house redeemed! Next time I eat here will be the finale of reviews.
Previous review - Hostess and wait staff. They were above excellent. Until they forgot to see how my meal was. Gave me my space to eat without being overbearing, which is appreciated... However, no question from the staff as to how my "steakhouse" steak was. Hence the lost rating. Side dishes superb in portion and cooked value. Food was tasty. Kitchen definitely Rushed my steak ( or just doesn't know) as a result it came out dry and overcooked... Not what I was expecting based on all of the excellent customer reviews. I am willing to give it another chance. Updated review...
