Was passing through the area and stopped short of edmonton. Was hungry after a long day of driving and unloading and hoped to get a meal before bed. Found this place on Google with hours listed as closing at midnight. I attempted to call and confirm the hours but couldn't get anyone on the phone. I arrived just after 10:30. After entering the parking lot I quickly discovered there was a charge to park here of 10$ per night. Im not apposed to paying for something if its worth it. The lady at the security booth strongly implied to me that the restaurant was open until midnight. For that reason I decided it would be worth paying the parking fee apposed to parking at any of the free parking within 1km of here. A good meal from a business deserves support after all. I immediately headed inside. The hours posted on the door also stated midnight closing time so I was getting very excited for some supper. I sat myself. While waiting i went online to read some reviews about the place found some promising info namely: "For those late night customers we offer home cooked meals... portions so big, we guarantee you won't leave hungry" from the Google listing and "get breakfast whenever you want" directly from their website. I see a few people eating as im sitting there and the food looks really good. Unfortunately, the waitress is nowhere to be found. So I wait until about 11:05 and the server reappears. I was seated by 10:45. To my dismay, the server indicated to me I got here just too late to order food. I ordered a cup of water as my driving schedule did not allow for any alcohol consumption. My passenger ordered 2 rum and coke high balls. He said they tasted like they had little to no rum in them. The 2 drinks also totalled just over $13. (A much easier pill to swallow with a fair priced meal) I completely understand that not everywhere will be 24/7 but after shutting down, parking, and paying for parking under the assumption that I would be able to get a meal, I am incredibly disappointed with this experinece. I'm not trying to nit pick here but its a gravel parking lot with a ton of ruts in it. I only paid to support the restaurant I wasn't able to eat at. I ended up ordering a pizza and the delivery driver was able drive into the lot unencumbered by any sort of security. So after 45 minutes of hassle to not eat and paying for parking I will not return here soon. Much easier to park at pilot across the street, go in and out with something to eat in less than 10 minutes. As drivers we don't run on a typical 9-5 schedule. Im not trying to propose that your truck stop should be open 24 hours a day similar to other truck stops across North America. But if there were just a more upfront layout of what parts of this truck stop are open 24/7 that would make scheduling our limited time a lot easier. Honestly, I was thinking about leaving a 1 star review. I saw that the owner reads all of the reviews on here and I chose to rate 2 stars in hope that the owner doesn't feel I am writing out of spite and takes my review seriously.
EDIT: It seems the only people unaware of those kitchen hours are your staff. Secondly, one person in the office does nothing. Multiple other entrances to your lot. I did pay for parking and I can prove that, but I did also watch numerous other car and tractor trailer units enter your yard and do as they please. Now, I will not completely write a place off that easily. I have seen you respond to many other negative reviews saying you will look into or remedy the problems. Anyways, I have come to learn words mean nothing. I am certain there was no miscommunication on my last visit. I will be in that neck of the woods again very soon. So the question I pose to you; I will pay the parking fee and go inside to eat, but what happens when I am told...
Read moreIncredibly rude server. A couple of days ago, we started having trouble with our Motorhome. Since both my wife and I are in the Transportation industry, we pulled over at Blackjacks until we could get the proper part we needed ordered in. We were told it was going to take a few days. We paid to park for four nights at Blackjacks. On day two we needed to shower (this was the issue with our motorhome). We came in, ate breakfast, showered, and sat and had coffee while I took a phone meeting. Shortly thereafter, my Dad asked if we could meet for coffee, he came by and we ate a second meal. A little while later, my child called and asked if we could have supper. I said, "Blackjack's makes great food!" So they came and had supper.
The next day, we needed to do laundry. We got a table and started our laundry washing. We decided to eat breakfast while we waited. And took out our computers to do some work. After eating, our waitress very rudely told us off when we asked for more coffee. She was angry and yelled,"what are you going to stay all day?" She then told us off because her table wouldn't revolve. I went to the front and asked for another server because our waitress was really rude. A few minutes later, our server came to us and yelled loudly, "You're not getting another server! This is my section! You're stuck with me!"
So, as it stands, we were going to leave as soon as our laundry was finished. There was about 20 min left. Now, we plan to sit here and work for the next several hours.
Very poor service.
Update:
This is the third time I’ve had a terrible experience with a server named Minneau (spelling may be off) at Blackjacks. Today, I quietly sat at an uncleared table with a power outlet to catch up on emails. Without saying a word, she approached me and said, “Oh you. You just have to be so difficult.” I was stunned—I hadn't even spoken yet. When I asked why she was being rude, she escalated things and refused to tell me who her superior was, only saying she was the manager. She then told me to leave if I didn’t like it, so I moved to another section. This same server was extremely rude on a previous visit and even gave my wife the middle finger. I come here often because it’s a convenient place to stay with good food and clean showers, but I feel completely unwelcome because of her. I just want to be treated with basic respect when I come in...
Read moreI have gone a few times for breakfast and never had a problem, until I went with my fiancé once again for breakfast, I used their bank machine to pay my bill and they told me that it did not go through so they asked me to try again so I did, once again, it said it did not go through. The waitress had told us that their machine was having issues that day so then my fiancé paid with her credit card that was the third time. Her credit card went through without a problem. I checked my bank statement and my bank was telling me that two payments were taken out of my account for the amount of $71.51. that’s including tip I showed the waitress that the money had actually been taken out of my account. They took my name and number down and told me to call back on Monday. We called back on Monday and they told us.that it would take a week and come see them on Wednesday. I went on Wednesday and talked to the manager she told me that the money indeed Had been returned to my bank and that I had to put in A complaint through my bank they have them investigate to get my money back, to this date, I have not received my money back and they won’t take any responsibility at all. They blame their machine. The bank told me it could take up to 30 days if they approve it I’ve had no call. They have my information. Nothing at all they could’ve simply just given me my money back and now I’m going through a huge hassle to try to get this back. Now I’m out $143.02 that’s the most expensive breakfast I’ve ever had and no one at blackjacks or their machine company has taken any kind of...
