Golden Cottage — Restaurant in Alberta

This was the worst Chinese food and dining experience I have ever had. Typically, I enjoy fresh Chinese food, but this restraunt was terrible. We ordered the chicken chow mein, beef chop suey, almond chicken and egg rolls. So they threw in a fried rice for free. Our bill was $45. The chicken chow mein was covered in goopy cornstarch sauce and the portion was small. The beef chop suey had a few vegetables in it (maybe 8 pieces of vegetables total) and the beef was chewy and tasteless. The almond chicken was covered in thick batter and tasted purely of oil. The egg rolls were unlike any I have had anywhere else.. thick batter that was mushy on it inside, with about 2 tablespoons of shredded cabbage in the middle. It was disgusting, I didn't even want to feed it to my dog. The rice was literally plain rice with a few frozen veggies (corn/bean/carrot). I packaged up the food and took it back to them. I calmly and politely explained my experience and the man at the till argued with me. He said that there is nothing wrong with the food and that he has lots of happy customers (the dining room and lounge were empty and there was just himself and one cook in the back). He continued to attempt to argue with me, that it is my problem not his. I asked to speak with a manager or the owner. He said there was no way to get ahold of them. I left the food there (3/4 of what I ordered was still there) and he refused to do anything but argue. I ended the conversation saying I will never be back again and no one contacted us. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I don't think they even deserve one star, but in order to write a review I must.

Went for the first time tonight for Vietnamese food. It was pretty good, not the best I've had, but not the worst either. The salad rolls were large and tasty, Vietnamese spring rolls were very good. I had the lemongrass chicken with spring rolls. The chicken was OK, but nothing special. I would have liked more chicken but it was ok and the price was decent. Hubby had lemongrass pork with spring rolls and said the same, it was pretty good but a bit more meat would have been nice. The service was definitely lacking BUT that could have been because it was New Years Eve and the phone was ringing non stop and lots of people picking. up orders. We will definitely go again and...

Let me start off by saying I have had the fortune to travel across this great Nation and in doing so, have had the experience of Chinese food from coast to coast and all points between. Tonight (due to COVID restrictions) I ordered take out. I ordered the in house Special Fried Rice and Ginger Beef. I requested the Ginger Beef to be extra crispy and extra spicy hot. Patrick served me up an absolutely INCREDIBLE meal. I HIGHLY recommend The Golden Cottage for their friendliness, professionalism and an absolutely INCREDIBLE product.
