Boots & Barrels Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Alberta

In town for a wedding. Asked at the hotel where we were staying what was good to eat in town and she suggested this place. Looked like a fun place to watch sports and catch up with family. Blonde female server came and told us the daily special - steak and a double caesar I asked her what she would recommend to eat and she said steak with a side of steak with a double caesar. Ended up debating between two burgers and when I asked the server which one she’d order she told me the more expensive one. We also ordered another dish to go. Food was brought and was very good. Towards the end of our night 9:50pm she came out and told us that the kitchen had closed and could not make our to go order. Did the kitchen not ask their servers if any more food was to be ordered? Did the server not tell the kitchen she had another order to be cooked? Did she not venture back and see the kitchen closing and tell them “wait I have another order?” We certainly were not “last called” to let us know the kitchen was closing. The server then shrugs her shoulders when we told her we needed the food and then recommended a gas station and convenient store as other options . Had to rush out of there as the next decent places to feed the student studying back in the hotel room were closing at 10:00pm - which both places closed before the posted 10:00pm closing. This restaurant was recommended to us while we were shopping for a vehicle across the street. The dining area is very open-concept (all table seating - no booths) and the temperature was not comfortable for a relaxing meal. The large windows may contribute to the cold interior, but it was definitely cold. Not cool … cold.

We were happy to see the variety of choices offered on the menu. We chose soup and an appetizer for our lunch. Unfortunately, both arrived not quite hot enough to maintain sufficient heat as we dined. My soup was barely warm by the time I finished eating - and I’m a fast eater. On a positive note, the food was flavourful and would have been rated as excellent if it has been served hot. And finally, our server Tenille was excellent! She deserves more than 5 stars. She is very pleasant and efficient. Thank you Tenille for your unsurpassed hospitality. Overall - I would enjoy my next visit more if the food was hot - even if the dining room still wasn’t warmer. My spouse and I visited Boots & Barrels for the first time on Thursday, November 5th. Our first visit, but it won’t be our last. The food was great! We ordered potato skins and fried pickles for starters. They arrived at our table hot and both were delicious. My husband ordered a Reuben sandwich and fries … a mountain of fries, and the Reuben was one of the best he's ever eaten. I ordered a Greek salad and a steak sandwich. Raves for both … the salad was fresh and tasty and the steak was cooked perfectly. Service was fairly quick and our server was friendly and efficient. An what to say about the owner who does it all … cooks, cleans, oversees everything but still found time to come and speak to us. He’s a fine host who will go far! Thanks for a wonderful evening! ...
