First off, I hate doing this. But couldn't not. Where to start. Hostess. Didn't say a word, just dead stared at me until I said hi. When I said I was alone, the bar was suggested. I don't like the bar so I said I'd rather not. She rolled her eyes and got me a single table, like it was a toll on her to do. Server was good, was a pretty busy night so I expected some time between table visits. Now I could chince and beef on the beer I ordered coming with a torn and left on top label but that was the least of my worries. Ordered The Hideout Burger with a poutine. Took almost 30 minutes (again, busy night) to get a cold poutine and a dry, burnt burger. I try to give the benefit of the doubt on a homemade burger so I went three bites around it to see if it was a bad spot. Was not the case so it sat. I needed to eat something so, though I didn't want to, I begrudgingly finished the poutine. Server came back, apologized when I mentioned the issues I discovered, and took the plate back. Had it comped, though I did expect to pay for the poutine as I had eaten all of it. But I was soon okay with it seeing I paid full price for the bottle of beer. Happy hour said until 6 and as I ordered at 5:45, I assumed it would be at the reduced price. I guess it depends on when your bill is processed? Was also presented a $10 gift card at the end, small redeeming factor adding the third star. Hard to want to go back though with the experience being so poor. Start to (near) finish just a...
Read moreAn expensive mediocre experience sums up our visit today. I wanted to order the Southwest Taco Salad until I was asked what kind of protein I wanted and informed that if I wanted taco meat it would be another $5.75 on top of the $17. A taco salad...without the taco meat...ludicrous. So then I ordered the Thai Peanut Wrap and paid for my protein of choice, in this case chicken, and an extra $5 or so dollars, still under $20 so ok, I can live with that. When it arrived I could tell right away it was dry but I decided to give it a go. It so dry and tasteless I could not eat it. The peanut sauce didn't taste like anything other than peanut butter and they grilled the wrap with lettuce inside so it was slimey and gross. I tried taking the filling out of the wrap to see if it would help, still dry and tasteless. This shouldn't even be on the menu. It's not that the cooks didn't anything wrong, it's just a bad recipe. My husband's BLT was very tasteless and the bread was very over toasted and the bacon was hard. I will say though that the fries were good, so at least there's that. It's really unfortunate, I used to love The Hideout, but I don't love this new direction they've decided to try. They did give me a $5 coupon because I didn't eat the wrap...but I won't be back. Such a beautiful location, it...
Read moreWe decided to try the Hideout as some friends said the food was good. So, after our movie we drove across the street. After manoeuvreing our way past all the poor smoking souls blocking the front door we found a vacant table and waited for service.
They had a live band and it was loud enough to not be able to have an easy conversation. After waiting for 10+ minutes for a waitress I took matters into my own hands and went to the bar for some menus... when they gave them they asked where we were sitting. Very shortly after a waitress finally showed up. The first thing she did was inform us that the table we were at was reserved... in fact the section we were in was reserved... although there were no signs showing this and no card on the table showing it was reserved. She pointed out vaguely to the rest of the pub that we would have to move. She then walked off without helping or suggesting a table or asking us what we would like to order.
I didn't like the noise... the rest of the tables were cluttered with the remnants of other previous guests and there were no other tables that were shielded from the band. So, I put the menus back on the bar and we left. If u want a nice atmosphere with attentive staff who want to help you have a nice visit.......
