Piper's Pub — Restaurant in Antigonish

If it were possible to give negative Stars I would!  This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had at a restaurant/ pub.  We ordered from the "BURGER" section...We both chose the Mushroom Burger and fries.  The waitress delivered the food to the table and we started eating....after 2 bites I asked my partner if there was a hamburger patty on her burger (I thought they may have forgotten mine) and since she'd only taken one bite she checked and there wasn't any on hers either.  We spoke with the waitress and she told us the mushroom is the patty and there's no meat on it.  We were surprised as, again, we ordered from the "BURGER" section and there was nothing standing out in the description that would lead us to believe this was not a Mushroom burger like any other restaurant.  The waitress suggested getting hamburger patties done and put on the burgers and although it wasn't ideal and the remaining burger and fries would surely be cold by that time we agreed and she said she'd take them into the kitchen and they would "reconstruct" the burger to include the meat patty.  She took the plates into the kitchen then came back a few minutes later to tell us there would be an $8 additional charge ($4 each) for the hamburger patties.  We at that point said enough is enough and said No, this is terrible customer service.  The waitress then went to get the debit machine for us to pay... I asked her about the plates she took into the kitchen and her reply was...oh, you want them????  (Surprised tone) And I said, on second thought we're just going to leave.  As I was paying (Yes, I even paid for this garbage and terrible customer service) I asked to speak to the manager and she said he wasn't in...so we asked to speak to who's in charge....she said nobody is in charge when the manager is off!  I asked who gave the direction to her and she said "Other Coworkers who have been there longer"!!!  I couldn't believe that a restaurant/ pub would be in such a state of confusion and lack of direction.  The waitress and the bartender were standing there so I asked the manager's name so I can call them tomorrow.  When we were leaving I asked them since this experience was so terrible could they recommend any GOOD places to eat and they were full of suggestions.  I simply shook my head and walked out.

The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu.

Not one employee could make a decision which leads to weak management.  The employees either aren't trained or too scared to make business / customer service decisions to assist customers or the employees simply don't care about the business and judging from the fact they were much more enthusiastic to suggest restaurants with GOOD food rather than prove their restaurant, this is most likely the case.

I have worked in restaurants and bars for a long time and also have eaten in 100's of restaurants as well as written columns concerning food, service, and overall experience and I can honestly say this is the lowest rating I have given and I suggest the management give your employees the tools to do their jobs successfully or fill your restaurant with employees who actually care about business success

The only good thing from this experience is; Thanks to the staff's suggestions where to find GOOD FOOD we now have a list of places in the Antigonish area to try such as The Main Street Cafe, Gabrieau's,...

We thought we’d try the pub so we ordered their bar mixture of starters and a couple of drinks, a beer and a Diet Pepsi … when I tasted the Diet Pepsi I realized it was not diet so I asked for a Diet Pepsi … our original waitress, apparently the owner’s daughter had gone so we had a new waitress … when our food didn’t arrive after 45 minutes, I asked the new waitress if our order had been placed … she said no, so I asked for the bill … when it came, she had charged me for the regular and the Diet Pepsi so I asked her to remove the regular one … she said she couldn’t or she would be charged for it … she said the owner’s daughter was new and still made mistakes, but she couldn’t change the wrong order. Since I didn’t want her to have to pay for the others’ error, I paid for it … to the owner, YOU NEED TO TRAIN YOUR STAFF!!! This place...
