Literally -1000 stars for service. Would not go here again because of the service. The owner/older lady serving is either biased/bigoted against younger people, or gay people...not sure which.
Which is disappointing because the food is really, really good. Like some of the best Greek good I've had and I'm a huge Greek lover...but I'd still avoid this place. Read below for why.
Went here for lunch today with my partner and was shocked by the hostile, unpleasant service and especially by the contrast in service we received to everyone else. Firstly, upon entering the restaurant we were ignored for more than a full minute. And I mean ignored....she was in and out of the kitchen, saw us, and chose not to smile greet us, tell us she'd be just a moment etc until we had been standing there for some time. We just didn't exist until it was convenient for her, and it wasn't even busy....just a lack of plesantness from the beginning.
Next, while ordering she didn't seem to like that my partner and I were sharing a meal. She literally rolled her eyes and said "okay so that's all then?" Okayyyyyy then.... when we explained we were sharing. As if we didn't order enough for her despite spending $25. Very judgemental.
Next, as I finished my order and paid I simply asked that she be generous with the tzatziki on the wrap. She immediately scoffed at me, and said "okay well that costs money you know, you....$2. Or I put what I put, and if it isn't enough for you too bad"...so I said okay I'll pay, and stepped toward the cash. She literally laughed at me and said "not with credit you won't, cash only for $2"...again okay, but there are nicer ways to speak to someone? So I got cash, and then when I came back to provide it to her she had already began plating the order and asked me what the cash was for...literally 2 minutes had passed. I told her "for the tzatziki like you asked" and she scoffed again before going to retrieve it. Like a big loud 5 year old huffing.
Finally, and here is why I believe she was biased against us from sight despite how pleasant we are, friendly, smiley etc (we love socially interacting on our trips).....EVERY OTHER TABLE WAS SERVED THEIR FOOD DIRECTLY, AND SHE CALLED OUT AND MADE ME PERSONALLY COME GET MINE.
I have no explanations for this as during our arrival, eating time, departure etc we watched at least 6 other tables be delivered their food, often larger quantities of it too which was harder for her to deliver, and instead she just opened the door and yelled out "its ready. Come!" Like I was a dog or something and just motioned at me. Incredibly rude, and why? Why not serve us? The only difference was that every other table was 45+ and hetero presenting....so she's either ageist or homophobic as there was no other rationale.
Unfortunately people will continue to come here because the food is so good and there isn't much else around, but I really wish people like this faced consequences for how they treat people. Every customer should be treated with kindness and respect, we literally keep your business alive. And your food is so good, you should want people to experience it.
I recommend that so many people visit the fairmont resort, and with that recommendation will now come a warning; skip Tony's...
Read moreThe food is good, but I wont go back, and here's why: Back when it was Tony's, I absolutely loved this place. Recently, I went again under the new ownership and ordered the lamb donair like I always do. I love donair sweet sauce.. so I always make sure to ask for it at any donair shop. Their sign advertises it, and its pretty standard at every place I've ever been to. The first time I went, the man there argued with me about how sweet sauce is bad for my belly and was quiet adamant that I do not get it. He stated "I've been doing this 30 years, trust me, sweet sauce is no good." Like buddy... I dont care.. I asked for sweet sauce.. he persisted for an awkward amount of time and was quite frustrated that I wanted sweet sauce. It was beyond strange. My gf commented when we left "what the heck was that about"... I decided to give them one more shot a couple weeks later even though I was totally turned off. The second time, sweet sauce was not up for debate. His wife strictly said no you can't have it. I honestly have no idea what their deal is.. in addition to this weird stance on sweet sauce, the donair is tasty, but over $20 and only came with a few thin pieces of meat. Not the end of the world, but definitely note worthy. I've been to many donair shops around Calgary and usually $15 gets you a donair twice the size, way more meat, and definitely no debate over sweet sauce. All this to say unfortunately I wont be going back. Neither will my gf or my friend I went with the second time. Now I go to the pizza place in fairmont for donairs. Cheaper, more meat, and happy to give sweet sauce. I recommend...
Read morePrices are ridiculous. Lady taking orders does not give the business a good face. Rolled her eyes at my mom while she stepped away from the counter to grab a drink from their cooler. After paying we realized our ticket was much higher than it should’ve been. When we asked the lady for a detailed receipt she followed us out of the door asking if we had a problem. After telling her we did she justified the extra charges as paying for “their service”. The machine we ran our card through had a tip option. So why would you charge us for service at all, none the less before you give us service?? Outside seating was nice but signs were marked everywhere giving directions, which personally I see as tacky. Besides the lady, the younger gentleman bringing us out our food and cleaning the tables was very polite. They will and did, take advantage of travelers. Decent food but too bad it’s overpriced and lacks any type of quality service. Will...
