Maria's Place — Restaurant in Avenue District

A co-worker and I have kind of made this"our lil spot".We decided to check it out one day and since then every now and then we will decide to stop in any time of day.We are always greeted by the friendly happy smiling waitress whom I believe her name is Maria.She always remembers one black coffee and one Pepsi also she brings the Edmonton sun for my co-worker to skim through and so I can check out my horoscope.The soup of the day is always delicious and hot and the menu consists of a variety of healthy choices cooked up in a timely manner as some customers like us only have a certain amount of time for our lunch break then must be back at the jobsite.The restaurant is decorated to make anyone feel comfortable either dining alone or with family&small Children'or a gathering of friends and family or as my work have met there for meal and discussion about certain matters that are work related as there was always enough chairs and tables to seat every one.Maria's Place is awonderfull place to dine.Maria is also a very wonderful person who makes me feel welcome and I enjoy my meal and her kind smile as I will always come back with my co-worker or who ever wants to enjoy...

Maria's place. Unfortunately got a slightly wobbly table with a torn seat but I'm too lazy to change it. As well i picked a table without salt, pepper and sugar. Ordered a coffee and Ukranian feast. I noticed their menu is very diverse in food served with highlights on Ukrainian and Canadian cuisine. All day breakfast is a plus. Fairy priced. Not much for dessert menu. Decor is old. Doesn't look like it gets to busy here. There is lots of space here and with the sun shining through the windows makes it feel cozy here. No Wi-Fi here but they take credit and debit. Service takes a bit of time as I think there is only one person who works here. There is definately a lot of microwave cooking going on i think but so long as it tastes good. Cabbage rolls are small and bland. Love the creamed sourkraut pierogies are not bad. Not sure what The corn meal is but it's bland. Sausage is nothing special. Sweet beets aren't too sweet. Not sure what the rolls with cheese but they are OK. Meal was filling, overall it was ok....

To give this place a 1 star is even being nice. First the server came around and threw all our menus in front of us. Next it was my mother in laws bday and she was inquiring about an omlete that she wanted to be told they're not cooking breakfast when the menu says breakfast all day. Then the kids and I asked for oj I got mine and everybody else got their drinks BUT the kids. I had to ask again for them. Then when we all ordered the sister in law got her chicken burger and it was hard as a rock and my son got his cheese burger and it's was all mush on the inside. We sent both back and the sister in laws came back right but my sons was still mush. And then the server had the audacity to say oh well the cook might be tired. I was a cook for 16 years and that is no excuse ESPECIALLY when the meal was for a 6 year old. On top of that when I went in to pay i looked in the kitchen and it is gross in there. Definitely needs to be degreased. This is the second time I've been here and I WILL NOT...
