I put the service at 5 stars because it was, but I could see that the lure of the place would soon catch on, a place like that, which hits the mark of food and atmosphere right off the bat, will go through growing pains of service, as it takes fire - every bit of pain worth it to customers who stop to wonder, choose to go inside to tempt fate and be immediately rewarded by the welcoming atmosphere where the family business did not make me feel like an outsider and the follow-through of the food which made me feel rewarded intentionally like a family member at the dinner table. If you want to feel welcome, inspired, and well-fed: Don't just stop on the street. Drive there, go inside, and feel like you just came home. All of the art on the walls, to my knowledge, was done by the matriarch of the relationship, which was explained to me in the hallway by the patriarch who stopped to talk to me wearing a White felt Sinaloan cowboy hat in order to sing praises to his partner and wife; need I say more. Romantic as it gets. Go. When I got my bill, I was...
Read moreFood was excellent, service was friendly, and the location was super low-key on a Saturday morning. Upon entering, we were greeted by a "Come in dancing and receive a free concha" sign on the door, which speaks to the joyful and fun atmosphere of this establishment.
I felt compelled to immediately text my family after ordering our food, as our hometown recently closed its sole authentic Mexican restaurant (which devastated my mother). They needed to know that I live just a few blocks away from what will surely become my family's new go-to dinner spot whenever they visit Edmonton.
The concha brioche (in La Morenita's Mexican twist on French toast) was fluffy and sweet but not too sweet. We adored the presentation with the bright pink topping and the heart-shaped clay bowl.
The Sope Benedict was savory without being too salty or heavy. It had a perfect amount of crunch.
My only regret is that we didn't get a slice of that gorgeous chocolate cake we saw being put...
Read moresaw La Morenita and decided to drop in as I was on my way to the Italian bakery. The place doesn't look like much from outside and you'd miss it easily. The inside is nice, the only issue with the place is it's a rough part of town. The food is very good, tasty tacos, it's 16 bucks for 3 tacos, not expensive fair price as the tacos are small hut if you came with someone else I'd go with tacos and nachos as that would be lots of food then. Though as I was alone just went with the tacos. I really liked the side salsa they gave, super tasty and service was quick and good. If you like tacos stop in here. Only issue I had was some homeless lady walked jn holding a bottle of vodka harassing the staff. What is with this city? Wasn't public intoxication a crime? It's not the resturaunts fault, but it's a reality of...
