This place gets a lot of hype in all the tourist books. For $55 Canadian, you get all the seafood chowder you would want, all the steamed mussels you would want, and one of either a lobster (small one), salmon, snow crab, or a steak. You also get a dessert with it. They immediately bring out a basket of biscuits and oat cakes. I loved the oat cakes. The biscuits were underdone and doughy. The soup was fine, although nothing to write home about. We did not want a second bowl.

The first plate of mussels that they brought out had a ton of shells without the actual mussel meat inside. Our second try at the steamed muscles was better. There's not really a sauce with these, but they are very nice and fresh.

I was rather disappointed in my lobster. It was very small. It tasted fine, but was certainly not the freshest most recently cooked version of a whole lobster that I've eaten. Since I wanted to go there for the lobster, it left me rather disappointed. My husband got the snow crab which was actually quite delicious. He says it's a lot easier to eat, which is of course true. So if you go there, I would recommend the snow crab. You might also think about just getting a main course and a salad rather than the whole "All you can eat" opportunity. It's probably not worth the extra expense unless you really do eat a ton. There were several dessert choices, and my husband and I each got one of the two crisps. The filling in them was fine, but the topping was soggy and no sufficiently cooked. I found them to be quite a disappointment. So for the price, it was not a good deal.

In summary, the food is okay. It is certainly not worth the hype. Nor would I go there again if I...

I absolutely love this place! I am from Ontario but every single time I come down to visit family on isle madame I do a little extra driving just to get this delicious dinner. The restaurant itself is very casual and simple, it has a few different rooms to dine in but I like the sunroom. I've had every single entree here besides the steak. Who wants steak when in the Maritimes? Not me! Seafood all the way. The planked salmon is delicious, the lobster was great and the crab is the best! I always do the all you can eat option . It is by far the best option. It begins with drinks (1 free non alcoholic beverage with meal) and yummy biscuits while you wait for their seafood chowder to come out (which isn't long!). The chowder is very well made, creamy and amazing. After comes the mussels; So fresh and addictive, I eat them by the bucket! Once you have had your fill of the first courses you get your entree of choice. The entree comes with coleslaw, potato salad and garden salad. All homemade and fantastic. For dessert you can choose one slice of the many pies they have or chocolate cake and a tea or coffee. I love the chocolate cake! So rich! And the coffee was a nice finish to a fantastic feast. The price is awesome as well. I have spent more at Red Lobster in Ontario and have not gotten even half of the quality of food I get here. The service here is also fantastic. I have never had a more pleasant service experience. I love this place so much and will return year after year, every single time I visit . BEST....

This is more of a lobster hall and less of a lobster restaurant. No pretentiousness here, no need to dress up, leave your air of snobbery in your car because your going to sit down with a whole hall of people excited to get a lobster, crab, steak or fish made simple so that the food speaks for itself.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to the staff who treat everyone like a member of the community and not like a tourist passing through.

I call this a hall because unlike a restaurant when you are seated at a table there is a compulsion to engage your neighbours in conversation and this is what makes this place special, unabashed chatting with everyone around you, making new friends, laughing with strangers telling and hearing stories.

Now for the food review. This is not my first lobster, but then I haven't eaten lots of them (and it is later in the season), but I found my lobster a bit small, but well prepared. My eating partner ordered the salmon and we found it dry and overcooked. I have no opinion on the steak or crab so you'll have to fill in the gaps on those.

So in short I'll say your best bet is to order the lobster or crab, you take your chances on the other dishes, but the experience of the hall is what makes eating here...

What stood out the most was the service. As a foodie and a traveler, I've been to many many restaurants and I can safely say that this place was in the top 5 for best service. They were warm, inviting and friendly while being professional as well. They were also kindly accommodating and thoughtful. I was a solo diner. Not only were they not dismissive of me and treat me like a waste of a table because I was alone and especially considering they were insanely busy, they made sure I was at a lovely two top table with a beautiful view of the water. No rushing and wonderful service throughout. I loved the simple and specialized menu. The prices were reasonable and the food itself was absolutely scrumptious. You could tell that the seafood was fresh from the ocean. When I arrived they had a line up of waiting customers, but it wasn't too long of a wait. This is a popular restaurant with the locals but also very popular with tourists. If you know you're going to go, I would recommend making a reservation if you can. All in all, this is a must "stop and taste" on the Cabot Trail!

This is by far the best bang-for-your-buck seafood dining experience in Cape Breton. Atmosphere: Cute cottage style vibe with all the precautions of a messy seafood meal in place. The view of the Bras D’Or Lakes is stunning if you sit in their closed in patio area. You are provided with a bib, scissors and a seafood pick to get all the yummy meat out. Menu: There are options for snow crab, lobster, AAA steak and cedar planked salmon for your main. Optional sides include mussels and chowder. The best deal is the all you can eat option where you are provided with endless buckets of mussels, endless chowder, a bread basket with buns, biscuits and oat cakes, your choice of crab, lobster, salmon or steak, endless non-alcoholic beverages and your choice of dessert (usually 5-7 options) with coffee or tea. I highly recommend if you choose to go here, be hungry. The food itself is delicious. The mussels and chowder are fresh, the salmon is done daily and the seafood is flash frozen. My top pick is the snow crab followed by coconut cream pie!
