I’ll start by stating that they have only been open two weeks, but the owners are established restaurant owners, operating an Indian restaurant in the area as well. Some of the things that were not on point can easily be fixed, others may need a re-think. Here we go!
First, the good: the service was prompt and friendly, but we had to ask for cutlery and questioned why cole slaw was not provided with the burrito, as advertised. (Apparently, this is a typo on the menu - it was supposed to read cole slaw sauce, but why not say this if you knew there was a typo when we ordered this menu item?)
The spicy fish burrito was large, but rather standard. It was helped out by liberal use of the hot sauce on the table, as it was not spicy on its own. The 8-12 tortilla chips were to be dipped in the cole slaw sauce, apparently. I ordered a side guacamole for $4, which was fine.
The quesadilla that was also ordered was … equally fine, nothing special. For $18-19 entrees, you’d hope they would pop a bit more than they did, but both were good enough.
The elote appetizer (Mexican corn on the menu) underwhelmed. It was $12 for one cob of corn cut in half, overcooked to the point of being rubbery and chewy, with no mayo in sight, and the cob was not slathered in queso fresco. It also lacked some seasoning and colour. For $12, even a second cob of corn and some better preparation would make this a great appetizer.
We will go back again after they’ve had a chance to get their menu corrected and their customer service sorted out.
The questionable, but could be improved easily: one of us ordered a Mexican Coke, which is a premium drink item, but it was brought to the table, already poured into a glass!
Part of the fun of Mexican Coke is getting it in the bottle at the table, and pouring it yourself; otherwise, who is to say you are actually getting Mexican Coke? Same thing with the Modelo, a premium Mexican beer. It was brought to the table already poured in a glass; we never saw the bottle. This is easily fixed, but was annoying from a customer service point of view.
One weird note - it was a Friday night, and the music was so loud, it felt like we were waiting for our food inside a nightclub.
I appreciated that it was something different, but it was too loud to facilitate table conversation, and a bit tone deaf for the time of night. Maybe something … Latin, Mexican, Spanish? Maybe mid-tempo or chill? Something to encourage drinking and hanging out?
Not generic, “I’m dancing until my Molly kicks in”, EDM crazy BPM, dance music.
For $85 with tip, we would have expected better food and service, but with the limited dine-in options in Bancroft, we can only hope these things we have noted will improve by the next time we return.
For an authentic Mexican meal, it is worth the drive to Belleville to dine at Chilangos, as the owners are from Mexico City and know their flavours.
For a place that is called Fiesta Flavors, it doesn’t live up to...
Read moreFood was mediocre and definitely not mexican, edible but NOT Mexican. Mexican is pretty easy to replicate so I was pretty confused when my quesadilla had honey mustard on it. Very little cilantro in the teeny tiny portion (like 2 tablespoons) of Pico de Gallo. Service was poor. Had to ask twice for our drinks and had to wave a server down and ASK for cutlery and napkins AFTER our food had been delivered. Was never asked "how is your meal?" This should be standard practice at a sit down restaurant with service. And one of the servers was walking around dragging their feet on the ground, so all I could hear was his shoes scuffing along the floor with every single step. $75 later for two meals and two drinks and a tip. Way over priced for the quality. I'm happy to pay for a good meal with good service. This was neither. And mexican food is very simple and easy and cheap to make. So, no reason for this. Nothing very mexican about this place. Maybe all the people that left good reviews have never actually had authentic mexican. But this ain't it! You're very defensive in all your responses. And a lot of other reviewers said the same thing as me. "Not mexican food". I gave the food the best score : .. A 3/5 and edible. I stand by what I said .... You're missing a lot of flavours that should be there. I would not return and you did NOT ask me how my food was after we had actually tasted it all. You asked how my husband's dish was when you dropped mine off. You didn't ask me : nobody returned at all to our table after you gave me my...
Read moreWe were in Bancroft for the day and were looking for a place to have lunch, and Fiesta Flavors did not disappoint. The prices seemed high-ish, but the portions are huge. Not a lot of options, but I would rather have less options that are delicious, than tons that are mediocre. There were a lot of sauce/topping options provided, which was fantastic. I took a photo, but we were starving and had already attacked the food. Overheard that it had opened in December 2023. We had the mild chicken tacos and spicy chicken quesadilla. It was actually spicy, unlike some places where it isn't. Not burn your mouth to the point where you want to cry, but you'll want some water. Not a lot of seating, but definitely room for more tables to be added. Only 2 people working, but the food came reasonably quick and overall great service. Only complaint was we weren't offered water on top of our drinks, but to be honest being at a small table, we did not have room for it with all the dishes. When at a small local business and you only see 2 people working, remember to be patient. Some customers had to wait a few minutes to pay and while she seemed nice, he looked impatient. Keep that in mind if you come here and experience that. Be kind, be patient, and support fantastic local small restaurants...
