This place is trash 🚮 Owner was rude and wanted me to to order but was acting like he didn’t need my business Chef was eating on a table and looked angry that I came to order, then he came back to kitchen after I ordered and made my food within 5 minutes and went back to eat.

I came inside and asked for jerk pork, I asked the owner if the jerk pork was made on a bbq and he said no and that jerk pork is never bbq. I have had jerk pork made on a bbq grill so I have no clue what he’s talking about. Anyways let’s get to the food, it was terrible, trash, only thing good was the rice and peas. Small portion, undercooked pork, no seasoning and no sauce, bland, hot sauce was garbage, it was too hot with no flavour. I didn’t understand this place, I really tried to give this place a try but it’s not good. I don’t recommend at all

Update - The owner has schizophrenia, my mother has never went to this restaurant and would never have gone there. I have no clue what free sample he’s talking about, I bought a jerk pork meal and a kola champagne drink for myself and it did not taste good, I ate quarter of it and threw it out in the garbage. I would never go to a place like this, the owner took 5-10 minutes to calculate the total and count the change to give me back my change. The owner can’t count and the chef can’t cook, terrible experience. And now the owner thinks I’m someone else? Maybe a lot more people complained and he has no clue who he’s talking about. Anyways, buyer beware, don’t go to this place. Avoid...

Okokokok… if you’re lookin for a spot that’ll have you squishin your face pointing at the food almost angry at how good it is, this is the spot for you. This is ReeaAALL food.

The jerk pork was maddd juicy not dry which is my usually biggest concern. The spice is flavourful too , not burn your mouth off and not too mild. If you’re concerned with spice don’t be as it’s the perfect mix here.

This is the honest review y’all want and deserve , and I have to do this cause the jerk I had today slapped the taste out my mouth and left me mad I didn’t buy more for home.

Slaw was creamy and mad flavourful, could be best I ever had honestly. Festival was no lie the best i have ever had. Light , crispy, doughy, Nigel the cook is now Nigel the wizard in my books cause I have no idea how the f— he doin all this with every item.

I got the plain rice cause I’ve been getting a lot of dry rice and pea from other places but i definitely f—-ed up with that decision and will come back for an oxtail with rice and pea ASAP

Guy at the front is a solid guy you can tell too. Very polite & quick service. Unusual for a ja restaurant haha . You can tell both really care bout what they do and it shows . Big ups both

Oaks Kitchen is a humble, hole-in-the-wall Jamaican eatery with only three small tables -- clearly geared towards takeout. The menu showcases Jamaican favourites, and the friendly owner, Howard, adds a personal touch to the experience.

I ordered the special jerk pork with festival ($14, no rice) and their famous vegetable soup ($6.50). While the coleslaw accompanying the jerk pork was incredibly flavourful and vibrant, the pork itself was disappointingly dry and overly lean. I later learned from Howard that the supplier provided a different cut of pork than usual, but I wish the dish had been juicier and had a bit more fat for balance.

To salvage the dryness, I added oxtail gravy for $2, which helped, but for a total of over $22 (no drink included), I felt the meal fell short. The soup, however, was satisfying -- hearty and worth trying again.

Next time, I’d definitely opt for the jerk chicken, which looked much juicier than the pork. Oaks Kitchen has potential, but for this visit, the execution didn’t quite hit the mark.

✅ Must-try: Vegetable soup ❌ Skip: Jerk pork (for now) 💵 Price: ~$22 for a meal without drinks

Would I return? Yes, but only to try the jerk...

To start off, Howard is such a nice guy and I felt very welcomed here. A rarity to have a good chat with an owner. Disclaimer: This to me didn't feel like run of the mill Jamaican food. There are traditional elements with some finesse added. For days you want something a little different - give it a try. I decided to go with the Jerk pork, as few places do this. But also - few places do this well. The pork: fairly tender, good char grilled flavour and a generous serving. I'd have liked a little more of the allspice and flavours to come through, but solid overall. The rice and peas: basmati was something I'm not used to. But I don't mind it. Happy to see them use gungo peas. Coleslaw was bright and clean and I could eat a whole bowl of this. The sauteed veggies on top with granny smith again felt non traditional but I do not mind the value of some extra roughage. The pepper sauce: had a great kick, acidity was there, was also very ginger forward which I found interesting. I will be back to try more and update this review.
