I've never had a negative experience at Portland jerk. The food is always very delicious and the service is always efficient.
The ladies at the front are efficient and get through handling taking orders and cashing you out at a good pace so as to keep the flow of traffic going in and out.
Could they perhaps smile a bit more? Absolutely 💯 BUT, that being said they are very professional and polite in greeting customers.
There is a variety of goodies for purchase in the centre of the store ie: Jamaican candy and other delicacies.
The prices have increased but that being said this is due to inflation and no fault of the restaurant itself. They have to adjust their costs like everyone else.
Will I come back? Absolutely 💯 it's important to support local businesses.
**Update:
I've been back to Portland Jerk a few more times since this review and I'm really disappointed in the coleslaw. Each time the slaw was a mushy mess.
It is not freshly made and taste as though it has been in the fridge past its prime. I understand the need to be efficient but after days end, throw the leftover slaw out.
I hope the owners address this issue as it is served with every meal. The taste, the texture.. everything is just off. The raisins even are mush.
I'm taking away a star and will visit again another couple times and edit my review accordingly. Consistency is important and in the beginning it was...the coleslaw is what elevated the meal for me. The crunch...the sweet and tangy combination was great.
Let's hope this can...
Read moreThis past Friday (July 28th,2017), I visited Portland Jerk for the first time and WILL NEVER be back there or order anything. I was there with my co-worker who had to buy something at the store. The service I had overseen was horrendous. My coworker and I were next in line waiting and there was a tiny line behind us (1-2 ppl). We were at one side of the counter and the guy that would be after us on another side. So at some point she says 'NEXT' - not at the side we were waiting on but at the side he was waiting on. So then there was pause of a moment and he started making his order. And I said wait, are you not next. And then the lady very rudely says and asks the guy, "Did I not say next?". The man responded yes and she said "GOOD" - as in to say too bad.
And to another customer prior, said if he was the last man on earth she rather die. Whether it was her friend or long time customer, it was so rude, because there was quite a few people in there at the time.
Overall she and the younger female worker were so disrespectful and unprofessional. And instead of me being a potential customer, I will NEVER support this place with my hard working money. Have some damn respect. Don't even know why my coworker still goes here. Don't care how good the food is... I...
Read moreBeing a BORN jamaican from country, our foreparents ALWAYS mention to say Good morning to people as manners and proper etiquette goes along way. I made sure to extend that gesture to the cashier (very nice lady) which she also returned the gesture, only to hear one of the employees(she knows who she is) in the back mock or make a remark regarding my gesture. Which I could've responded to her about her deplorable attitude, that same employee seems not to care about her customers rather just complain under her voice thinking that people cannot hear. That attitude is NOT warranted or needed. To the staff I highly suggest you speak with her, and have her correct her attitude, because after speaking with others who have purchased food from them, they all have mentioned that same person, as she isn't hard to be mistaken for, show some respect for others, not because they're buying food from your establishment, but because we as jamaicans are not disrespectful people but grew up from humble beginnings, it come in like she forget to be nice. And smile ,ca God don't like ugly. Other than that, the rest of the staff I thank you for preparing my meal, the rice was a little tough but... I understand. It happens. Moral of the issue is treat others as how you would like to be...
