Lowered my rating.
Prices have increased... not only $5 more for free delivery, but are now charging Mandarin prices & have switched to dollar-store type containers that leak & crack easily.
Golden Lake Chinese food restaurant is now my go-to (food quality is much higher, take-out containers are much stronger & tighter, and their hot & sour soup is far better than Sunlight's. Too, Golden Lake's 3 free spring rolls with $40+ purchase is a nice bonus... Sunlight gives no freebies at any price point).
If you're going to pay Mandarin prices, then why buy Sunlight's sub-par quality food?
Prices in testimonial below were during Sept/Oct 2022
3⭐ rating but 1 driver is super nice so gave 4⭐
Sunlight does their own deliveries (free with $25+ purchase)... nice not paying the increased charges associated with the 3rd party (such as Uber eats, Door dash, and Skip the dishes)
Their food is not as good as the Mandarin, but then it's not Mandarin prices either! You get fair value for what you pay for, tho ☺
The Good, The "Meh", & The Bad
The Good:
Deep fried chicken wings ($12.50) are delicious - will buy again! They lack crispiness, but a good flavour overall + you get an equal amount mini drumettes to wings (6 of each)
I reccomend "Dinner for 1 - combo #6" ($12.50): chicken lo mein (thin noodle... fried?) with a dark sauce + 6 wings
The pork fried rice was good ($9), especially after I poured liquid / sauce from other containers on top & then microwaved a cpl mins
I really enjoyed the plain chow mein ($7) & the mixed vegetables ($9) = a mix of broccoli, bok choi, and onion pcs.
Their Singapore noodles ($14) are curried thin vermicelli miixed with pork slices & shrimp
The "Meh"
The curry mixed vegetables were ok ($9.50), but had a slight bitter taste: I'd get ordinary mixed veg next time ($9)
The egg rolls ($1.50 ea) were ok, but filling had no cabbage / was just bean sprouts. Next time, I'd get crispy spring rolls ($2.50 for 2) instead
The Tai Dop Voy ($13.50) = various meats on veg, was bit of a let down as there were only 4pcs of med-sized shrimp, which had a musty flavour (from freezer?) otherwise the dish was not too bad.
The Cantonese chow mein noodles ($15.50) is similar to Tai Dop Voy ($13.50), but a titch more meat & on a "soft" (aka sticky, boiled / not fried) lo mein noodle instead of on veg
The Guyana style special mix meat on fried rice ($12) was not a usual Chinese fried rice, but more swollen & grainy
The Bad:
I wouldn't reccomend Guyana style special mixed meat on lo mein ($12.50) = thick noodles, like spaghetti but with gravy -- really strange!
The fried chicken (not wings) & fries ($11.50) was a disaster! The chicken was way over-cooked & dried out, so it was rock hard, almost burnt. And I assume the oil for the fries was not hot enough (I don't know if they turn on fryer as needed?) because the fries had absorbed a ton of oil = soggy.
Next time I got fries ($6), I asked for "well done / cook longer"... they were edible, just kind of ok.
The 3rd time I got fries with wings ($12), again asking for the fries well done, they overcooked the wings instead, and I got another batch of soggy, oily fries. I give up on their fries.
The onion rings ($6) are horrible = breaded & commercially made; sooo dry.
The so-called "Pad Thai" ($13) was unlike any Pad Thai I've ever had & did not have any traditional pad thai sauce - pretty much just noodles with crushed hot chilis. I'm not sure if the pad thai noodles were precooked(?) and left too long(?) because something tasted "off"
All-in-all it's hit or miss, depending on what...
Read moreI am a huge fan of egg rolls so I ordered a bunch along with a Cantonese chow mein, general tao chicken and chicken balls. My first bite into the egg roll my teeth could not bite through the filling and proceeded to pull the whole filling out of the roll. The filling had the consistency of ropes or twine. I couldn't tell if it was dried bean sprouts or some kind of par cooked noodle but needless to say you can't even bite through it so the whole lot were thrown out. As for the chow mein, everything tasted the same flavor, the flavor of a dirty wok. It was a 2/10 at best only because the noodles had a decent consistency and it was not smothered with sauce. The tao chicken was not chicken. It was a bowl full of batter with a couple of hard unchewable clumps. The sauce had zero spice and was watered down flavor. The chicken balls were ummm... Okay. The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking, it suppose to be sweet and sour, well this was red, and sweet. So red as a matter of fact that a few drops of it landed on the counter top and stained my counter. So heavy on the red food die and heavy on the sugar. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The people that have this a 4 star rating must be vaccinated and lost all their taste buds because this was by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had the...
Read moreMy honest experience at Sunlight Chinese food was not delightful and I would not recommend for any avid Chinese food consumer. For my mother's birthday, we ordered chilli chicken for takeout, however we received sweet and sour chicken instead. After calling the restaurant, they were extremely rude, impatient, and reluctant to solve the following issue. The sad part about the whole scenario is that the receipt clearly states that 1 order of sweet and sour chicken was sent, but the restaurant would not admit their mistake, even after several times reading them what the receipt said. In addition, we ordered curry chicken, which they thankfully got right. The curry chicken was average, but for its price range, other restaurants would provide better quality at a more reasonable price. Overall, with extreme prejudice, I would not recommend ordering from the following vendor. They are very rude, incompetent, and provide subpar...
