This spot was quite busy when we arrived, about 60% full, and nearly at full capacity by the time we left. I appreciated that the seating wasn’t too cramped between tables, which made the atmosphere more comfortable. The decor was cute and definitely photo-worthy. We tried several dishes. The galbi beef with rice and salad was well enjoyed by my dining companion. The bulgogi beef udon was tasty, with a slightly sweet sauce and a generous amount of meat, veggies, and noodles. We also ordered the tteokbokki with added mozzarella for $3, asking for it less spicy. The sauce was on the runnier side with sweet notes, and the rice cakes had an excellent chew. I liked that it included fish cake and vegetables such as zucchini, onions, and carrots. The last dish was the tofu stew, which had a good level of spice along with vegetables and a hard-boiled egg. It came with a side of rice that was just the right portion, and not overwhelming. All the food came out piping hot, which would be especially comforting in the winter. At first, I thought the prices were on the higher side, but after trying other places in Montreal, I realized this restaurant is actually very reasonable for the portions. Service was also very friendly, making it a spot I would...
Read moreI was told this Mon Ami has better fried chicken. In general not bad but I would suggest the batter can be a little bit more salty. The outside is crispy. Inside is ok moist. Tried other dishes. Bibimbap is not bad. At least they have the real stone bowl and it is served hot. If they can have the rice a little bit roasted at the bottom it would be nice. Japchae (potato noodle) is also not bad. The taste is well balanced (noodle and vegetables ratio, not too salty not too bland). Black bean noodle is also good. Not too salty but savory enough. I especially like the noodle type that they used. Seafood pancake is decent but not something I would strongly recommend. It is a bit thick and flavour is not strong (a bit bland in my opinion). Although they do have sufficient ingredients. I like the portion of each plate. It is not overly small or big. It is not a big restaurant aiming for dine it. I called in advance to reserve a table for 7pm and there was no problem. The servers are responsive and nice. The restaurant does not have a light up sign outside. At night my parents had...
Read moreI can’t recommend Mon Ami Solar enough — it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city! The fried chicken here is incredible — perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned just right. You can tell they take real care in the kitchen.
But the star of the show for me was their LA GALBI — unbelievably tender, rich with flavor, and grilled to perfection. Each bite melts in your mouth, and the portion was generous. Paired with their delicious sides, it was an absolute treat.
On top of the amazing food, the vibe at Mon Ami Solar is perfect. It’s cozy but modern, with great lighting and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re there for a casual dinner or a relaxed night out with friends, it hits just the right tone. You feel comfortable lingering over your meal and soaking it all in.
