Spicy and Bland, but I will be going back – District Kitchen+Bar This neighbourhood eatery offers the usual pub fare in a warm, industrial style setting. Upon arriving you are greeted by the hostess, situated right in line with the front doors. Seating is well spaced and comfortable. Our server, Lexy, was bright and cheery. I started with a Cherry Cola, one of their signature drinks, followed with the Chicken+Brie Melt which boasted, “BBQ roasted pulled chicken breast blended with roasted red peppers served on a butter toasted Italian bun with melted brie cheese, Granny Smith apples & roasted garlic aioli.” Dessert was the Carmel Apple Blossom, “Chudleigh's famous cinnamon & oat apple blossom oven baked and finished with our house made caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream”. Our orders were brought out in a timely manner allowing for good conversation and enjoyment of our drinks. Visually, the Chicken+Brie looks hearty, the French fries generous in quantity. The first few bites were spicy as the BBQ sauce was overpowering. By the second half of the sandwich, I looked for the granny smith apple and the brie – only to find a small, single slice of brie and a few slivers of apple at the end of the bun. A bit of a let down, having each bite be the same throughout the meal would have been perfect and toned down the spiciness of the BBQ sauce at the start. The French fries were crispy, and well seasoned. Dessert was served in a skillet, and was more of a dumpling than a blossom. I learned that the blossom is pre-made by another vendor. The pastry lacked any real flavor, but was cooked. The apple inside lacked seasoning, I did not see any cinnamon. The vanilla ice cream had more flavor. As for their in house caramel sauce, I couldn’t taste it. The background TV with current sporting events were at a low volume, allowing for easy conversation around the table. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and was quick to bring what ever we needed at the time. The dinning area was clean and orderly, as was the ladies bathroom. Overall, I enjoyed my time at District. I am going to go back. I see potential for a friendly, neighborhood restaurant that will bring people back...
Read moreBackground: reserved a table via the restaurants own website on respond to a Facebook ad for a Mother’s Day prime rib dinner for 2 including a charcuterie board appetizer, 2 10 oz AAA prime rib dinners and dessert for $109.50. Arrived and indicated we had a reservation, to which the girl looked at us like we had 3 heads, asked how many it was for, turned and spotted an empty table and said, “how’s this?” Seated at our table, we ordered drinks and asked our server for the Mother’s Day prime rib dinner for 2 special. He also looked at us like we had 3 heads Mr said he didn’t know, he had just arrived, and retreated to the kitchen. Back he came with the (presumably) manager, who advised they had only a few servings available per night. Fair enough, but the server had no idea. We ordered and specifically asked the server if it came with the charcuterie board and he said yes. Out came our dinners. No appetizer. Upon inquiry, the (presumably) manager came back to advise that was the take-out special only and they don’t even physically stock the charcuterie boards in restaurant (so if you order for takeout…?????) Fine, skip the charcuterie board, we’ll eat our dinners. We’re starving after all. Worst prime rib dinner ever. Asked for medium rare, was over cooked - medium at best, if not medium well. No horseradish and drizzled with some type of gravy (no au jus). Yorkshire puddings completely dried out (and no au jus). They gave us dessert, I guess to make up for the “misunderstanding”, which was equally gross. Frozen garbage. Cool decor but we will not be returning. Kicker - they have the audacity to charge The Keg prices for something you would find in a cafeteria. I’m sure the pub fare is decent but stay in your lane. Do...
Read moreI was here for a birthday dinner with 4 people. They were fully booked with reservations so granted they were busy but we did not have good service and the food wasn't great. I ordered a lettuce bun for my burger, which the waitress told me they could do. I got my burger (which was very small) on one leaf of lettuce and arugula pieces on top. I attempted to not complain and just eat it with a knife and fork but couldn't even cut it with the butter knife. (They didn't provide a steak knife) The bacon was charred and the burger was burnt so I had to request a new burger with a lettuce bun as I originally ordered it. Trying to get our server back was a mission. When our food was dropped off by a gentleman no one asked if what we ordered was ok. It took more than 10 minutes before we could find someone to let them know I had an issue with my food. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks the ENTIRE night! My friend actually had to get her water from the bar herself. Her wings arrived and they were cold. She had to ask for ketchup for her fries 3x. When I got my new burger it was pink and only had one tiny piece of pineapple so only one bite of the entire burger had pineapple. My other friend whose birthday it was, ordered the Jerk chicken bowl and her chicken was burnt and dried out. It seems they do not do any quality control to what comes out of the kitchen. When she got the birthday cake dessert, it was brought with only one fork and no napkins. We couldn't find anyone to ask for extra forks and napkins. After us expressing our concerns at this point it would have been nice to see a manager especially since they knew we were celebrating a birthday. I don't think we will return...
