Eastway Bake Shoppe — Restaurant in Burlington

I had given this bakery a 5 star review but no more. We are regulars here and go there a lot...several times a week. Well today, Dec 30th, 2024, we went there around noon. We recognize the friendly staff that normally helps us but today there was an older woman I have never seen before. She was one of the most miserable, unfriendly individuals I have ever dealt with.

I am wondering if it's the owner's wife since I did see the main baker in the back. Either way, she never smiled once and made me feel like I was putting her out. I asked a question and got a very snide remark back and any other conversation was met with silence or responses that were unfriendly.

If this person was the person on cash every day I would never go back!!! I do not care how good your food is, if you are in the service industry you need to be friendly, even when you hate being there. (which she obviously was).

There are a lot of bakeries and options in Burlington and I am considering taking my money elsewhere permanently. If this is not the owner/owner's wife this person should be fired or kept in the back where she does not have to deal with us...

I came across this bakery when we were grabbing coffee from the Tim Hortons located just opposite to it and on further search found out this to be a pretty old family run bakery which made me more excited to try it. I ordered my birthday fruit cake from here and they prepared it just as I wanted. I never found a place which prepared fruit cake as I preferred, but I finally found it. Without a second thought, I ordered my husband’s black forest birthday cake the next month, and it was beyond delicious. And they presented it just the way I wanted. Nice people. Very cute bakery. We love buying our baked goods at Eastway Bake Shoppe. Its been a family tradition dating back to the late 1970’s. The service is wonderful. They have friendly staff that give you a warm greeting. They often remember what you like such as the Chop Suey Loaf which is absolutely delicious (and the staff will even set one aside for you if you phone ahead as they are so popular). We’ve ordered birthday cakes - you select everything and they aren’t expensive - just give 4-5 day’s notice. The pies are wonderful. The Nanaimo bars are the best anywhere! Great cookies too.
