Hakka Fresh — Restaurant in Burlington

Ordered take out last night. I'm thinking management may have changed as their food and service used to be great. The guy who answered the phone didn't seem to know the menu well and had trouble taking my order. I ordered chilli chicken (wet), two spring shrimp rolls, an order of chicken pakora and the deluxe house noodles and for it to be spicy. I ended up getting the regular house noodles and it wasn't made spicy, there was hardly even any flavor to it to begin with. The chicken pakora was horrible, (not battered with spices and herbs) just small pieces of chicken with Indian spices and a bit of sauce. The chilli chicken was a little bland, and hardly any chicken, they filled the container with lots of sauce and onions. The only good thing was the shrimp spring rolls, they're actually quite good. The service was horrible! When I went in to pickup, I wasn't greeted... an older man was at the counter on his cellphone. I said hello and he said he'll be with me soon. He went back to his phone. A young kid was working as well, he took a dish to a customer and came back to the counter. He proceeded to greet me and the restaurant phone rang. Instead of help out, the older man just barked at the kid and told him to answer the phone. So I stood waiting again. Eventually the older guy asked me what I was here for. I told him and he went to the back to get my food. When he returned I asked for chopsticks and soya sauce. He didn't seem to want to give it out. He asked me in very rude tone, "is two packages enough?". I said three would be nice. When I went to pay he again made me wait for the young man to help me. I have been coming here for years now and when the HEAD CHEF is there the food is 10/5 - perfection, delicious every time. The best hakka food you will eat.

BUT they have new chefs and the two times when i’ve gotten take out and they cooked - the food was not the best, either too much masala and seasoning where it is overpowering OR no flavor at all and it tastes like nothing. Also the rice was not cleaned properly and so i could taste that.

I feel like the new/other chefs need to be trained to follow the head chef’s recipe exactly. I sincerely request management to please look into this. The head chef is an amazing chef and the food is perfect - please train the other chefs to follow.

You can instantly tell when the head chef prepares it vs others. If you are lucky enough to go in when the head chef is there - be ready for the best hakka food you’ll taste in the GTA. Otherwise, prepare for dissatisfaction, unfortunately (in my opinion), only the head chef makes the food well and perfectly.

I also got the wrong order twice but they were kind enough to say they would prepare the meal for me next time.

Overall the staff are very kind and professional. I always bring all my friends and guests here for the authentic hakka taste. They also give free fortune cookies and enough sauce/tissues. I think usually the head chef is there during the week days so i’ve been lucky enough for the...

Today, we went to this restaurant for lunch. There were 9 of us. We had 6 children . They sat us at a table for 6. We told them there was not enough room , and asked if we could move a small table over , they refused . We asked if we could sit at the bigger table and they said " they are saving it IN CASE a bigger party showed up. Basically they acted like our children were invisible and did not want to accommodate us . The restaurant was EMPTY! Other than 2 tables being used , and they would not give a table to fit of us. we decided to get up and leave and he said ok bye . He was totally fine with losing 9 paying customers , in an empty restaurant. This is a Muslim owned place with halal food . Being Muslim , ourselves . It is not easy to find halal foods. This use to be one of our favourite places to eat . We use them to cater our Ramadan iftars and big parties. Unfortunately , we will NEVER support this business again. All because they could not give us enough seating for our children to eat. What did they expect ? For our kids to sit on the floor ? When there was over 10 extra tables available ?
