Unfortunately had a bad experience here. Seems as if one of the hostess who was serving our table had an issue with me and I felt as if I were treated poorly.
I had been seated with my group for a couple of minutes, and while this hostess was pouring a drink of water for the person who was across the table from me, I politely asked if I could order a drink as I had just reviewed the mixed drink menu.
I have no idea why, but her face immediately dropped as if she were annoyed upon hearing my request. She straightened up, completely ignored me, then turned and walked away VERY quickly from the table without even acknowledging me. Mind you, she was literally leaning over me to pour out the drink for my friend across the table, so there is no way she could not have heard me. I was caught off guard at the rudeness, and was baffled for a second - as I clued in to her trying to ignore me as she left the table, I turned around to say "excuse me!" with enough volume so she could hear me. She kept walking (maybe to the bar/ the kitchen?) and disappeared in the back. Still perplexed, I looked around at a few people who were sitting beside and across from me at the table to confirm that I wasn't just hearing/seeing things, and they echoed my confusion - they were asking what just happened, why did she do that?
She came back to the table and this time started pouring out some water for me, still looking annoyed but not acknowledging what just happened. I asked her directly did she not just hear me ask her if I could order a drink? She denied hearing me and I proceeded to order my drink but felt so uncomfortable with that whole interaction.
The food was okay, reminiscent of the Keg. The restaurant did a good job serving our group, meals came out in a timely manner. I think it was the manager who came out at some point as well to help take orders, and she was really nice and funny. The rest of the staff were kind and helpful. Unfortunately it was the one servers attitude that ruined most of the night for me and I won't...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived, we were treated with warmth and care that elevated our evening into something truly memorable. Our server Laura was nothing short of exceptional—attentive, kind, knowledgeable, and sincerely dedicated to making every moment special. She made us feel genuinely cared for, anticipating our needs and checking in with perfect timing and grace. Her service was beyond five stars.
We started with refreshing drinks—Muskoka Brewery IPA, which was surprisingly smooth with a honey-like sweetness and a hint of citrus bitterness that made it incredibly easy to sip. The Watermelon Chili Spice cocktail was a standout: vibrant, slightly sweet, subtly spicy, and absolutely refreshing on a summer evening.
Our meal began with the beet and warm goat cheese salad, and wow—the goat cheese was warm and melting perfectly into every bite of the tender greens and golden beets, topped with crisped walnuts and a delicate lotus chip. A flawless balance of textures and flavors.
Then came the main dish—stuffed chicken breast resting on a vibrant red pepper coulis with perfectly roasted fingerling potatoes, squash, asparagus, and microgreens. The chicken was juicy, flavor-packed, and paired beautifully with the earthy-sweet vegetables. Every bite was a delight.
And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any better—Laura and the team surprised us with a house-made crème brûlée to celebrate my partner’s birthday. It was creamy, perfectly torched, and such a thoughtful gesture that made our night truly unforgettable.
Loondocks is not just a restaurant—it’s a celebration of hospitality, flavor, and joy. We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs. Can’t wait to return!
💫 Highly, highly recommended. Ask for Laura if you...
Read moreMy brother visited from Poland and we went to Loondocks for a fancy dinner to celebrate before he left. I wish we went a few more times when he was here because we all loved the food and atmosphere.
We were a table of 5 and ordered food from the main menu and the Vegan menu. It was really nice that they had a dedicated plant-based selection so we were not all searching for items in a large menu.
Everything was clearly labeled and fresh. Everyone got something different and all the dishes came out at the same time, hot and delicious. We were all very pleased with the presentation and service. We never had to call a server over, it is like they instinctively knew the best times to check on us. My husband also loved the craft draft Canadian beers. I loved the wine selection and pairings that were suggested by Brittany.
The owner and Chef Kevin came out to see how we were enjoying the dinner and we learned more about him and his sustainable philosophy with food waste and their meticulous ingredient selection. The name Loondocks really sounded familiar and after talking with Kevin I remembered that we actually ate at his previous location in Port Carling Muskoka many years ago! And he actually remembered us :)
I have meant to write this review for awhile and am still in awe over that night as I don’t get to see my brother very often. I’m really happy I took him here and plan on making this a tradition when he comes back in the summer. When you remember an experience this long you know the staff did an amazing job. We drove from Mississauga and passed by so many other places to get there. I would highly recommend if you have never been. Beware though… it may raise the bar higher than you thought and other restaurants might...
