The Black Bull — Restaurant in Burlington

Not digging the new venue. We booked for a party of 30. Thank goodness we preordered some starter food. The waitresses pretty much ignored us all night. Empty glasses. Dirty tea cups. Begged for menus to order more food but to no avail. Three times...no menu. I asked for a Hurricane and was told they didn't have it. Basic drink...oj pineapple juice and rum. Got one when I explained the ingredients...Really? Didn't mean to order a difficult drink... Three of us got dirty glasses. Two were tea cups...by the time they replaced the cups an hour later...cold tea. AND we had to chase after the clean cups...she took away the dirty and didn't bring the clean until we went looking for her. Another 20 minutes for new water. Really???? We had a to go to the bar for refills on drinks as our waitress ignored us most of the night. Took forever to get our bills. Not used to such spectacularly terrible service from this establishment. Went home and ate since they apparently didn't want our money. It's not like we surprised them...it was booked way ahead of time. You'd think they would try to service such a huge group. Love the new location!! Food is still good. Parking lot gets very full on busy nights and no where else close by to park. My biggest complaint is people smoking as soon as you step out the doors. First off, I believe there is a by law that is being broken and second, it stinks and is awful for customers to walk through. Tonight when I arrived, there were empty cigarette packages and other garbage on the walkway and when we left there were 8 people right out front smoking. It was absolutely disgusting!!! My car was parked almost right there and smelled of smoke when we got in it (and we are not smokers). I should not have to walk through anyone to get to my vehicle. This is not the only time, this seems to be common practice each time I visit. Management should have signs up and monitor where people are smoking as it is tarnishing the appearance of the restaurant!! It's another 10 steps to go around the corner. Would make it look less trashy and smell a lot more pleasant. Laird and Rob, I ask that you look into this...

The Black Bull has a warm atmosphere. I'd recommend coming here for the drinks and relaxing with your friends, but don't expect much out of the actual food.

I came here during Super Bowl Sunday, and I was pleasantly surprised that it neither crowded nor rowdy.

Service is prompt, and you're treated nicely by both the servers and the managers.

I found the Black Bull Burger to be a little bland, and it had way too much fried onions in it, and not enough seasoning or flavour. The poutine was okay, but the gravy tasted old. I'd recommend getting the fries alone, and sticking to a regular burger. Actually, for the price of $20, I'd say go elsewhere for actual food.

That being said, the atmosphere and the bar section are great. You can also relax in the lounge area, where there are 3 dart boards and a pool table.
