Windmill Restaurant — Restaurant in Burlington

We went to the Windmill Restaurant twice. In both times, we didn't get to eat there.

Our first attempt was for a Sunday brunch. Sunday is the busiest day for breakfast/brunch restaurants - but not for the Windmill, which is closed that day. My fault for not checking ahead of time.

Our next attempt was on a Tuesday. Opening hours: "7am to 3pm". But not this week. Apparently, they decided to take the week off. Nothing on their website to indicate this, because--you guessed it--they have no website. They used to have a Facebook page, but that, too, is gone.

This is bad enough if you get there by car. But if you come by bus, it's either a 10 minute walk across the park from the number 12 bus stop, or a 15 minute walk--each way--from Guelph Line. Not fun on an empty stomach.

I respect the owners' right to a work-life balance. But when you open a restaurant, you need to decide whether you'll be running it as a pastime or as a business. Family-owned businesses often complain about the corporate-owned chains driving them out of business. This type of disregard for customers is...

Great service, excellent breakfast diner food.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict (only available Saturday) my guest ordered the cheese omelette.

Both were equally delicious. The hollandaise was homemade. It is a worthy contender for best in the area. Although at time of serving I would critique it, as being slightly over-emulsified.

Servers were friendly and quick to respond. Many regulars at this location, making a nice home diner feeling and atmosphere.

Quick delivery of food.

The rating is relative and appropriate to the type of restaurant is, and it is not trying to be something that it is not.

I do like my breakfast joints! Once again, we are between 4 and 5 stars. Really solid 4.5, not quite 5. Service was a real standout. We were seated, served and left within the hour. Not that we were in a rush, but wow, talk about efficient! I think if you were looking for a quick bite, this is the place.

Food was very good too, with portions that were good. Not too much, and not leaving you wanting more. And that diner coffee that is always so good. I don't know how many cups I had, but it was a lot!
