Had the "Hainanese Chicken Rice 無骨海南雞飯" and "Hainanese Chicken Noodle 海南雞湯麵". Both were $14.50 each and came with a free drink. It's quite a good deal.
I'm not a fan of the texture of the yellow noodles used, but I ate them all anyway. They're not a noodle I'm familiar with. If there was another choice, I would've changed to that instead.
The chicken that came with the rice had sauces for dipping, but the chicken that came with the noodle did not. Just eating the chicken without sauce was pretty bland, almost tasteless. You basically had to depend on the heavily MSG-laden broth for flavor. All in all, I wouldn't recommend the noodle version at all. Unless the noodle version comes with sauces, I would be more content. I was lucky I could dip it in my rice version's sauces.
My wife seemed to enjoy the chicken. I told her... I've tasted better. I've had better on Singapore Airlines Business Class, at a Singapore Airport lounge, and at a Singapore food court near the office. At least the chicken used there, though boneless, were whole or bigger pieces. Even chicken breasts were moist, juicy, and filled with rich chicken flavor even without sauce. The chicken by Yuan's were also boneless but consists of tiny scraps and devoid of natural chicken taste. It was quite disappointing.
wife especially like the chicken because they were all dark meat. The locals would find it cheap and would prefer white meat instead. Both rice and noodle versions use dark meats.
the free drink, I asked for coffee. I should've known. I always fall into the GVA Chinese restaurant coffee trap. They used cheap, bulk instant coffee, and to make matters worse, Yuan's came with an excessive amount of milk. The taste was horrible. A couple of sips I ditched the whole cup. I should've ordered ice tea, like my wife did.
surprised tax is included in the bill, but you don't need to pay for it. Though not much, money is money. Like they say, missed a penny you can't get on the bus. Every...
Read moreUPDATE BELOW TO THIS: The hainanese chicken was excellent last time I ordered it but this time it was disappointing as half of the chicken was not tender but difficult to chew; like maybe an older chicken and the rice was cold when I picked up my order as soon as the handheld device went off. They don't give much ginger sauce and sweet chili so you must ask for more and server makes you feel like you inconvenienced her. When I placed the order the server was not very friendly but abrupt which is a shame because a pleasant experience is what makes customers return and they may share great food and service with others. I was so hungry I just ate the cold rice and some pieces of tough chicken since it was close to closing on a Saturday. It comes with Lemon tea drink which is nice for $14.50 plus GST. I hope they read these reviews and improve as there's plenty of other places to eat in the mall or elsewhere. UPDATE: I returned and everything was delicious again! Thank you for...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The staff member who took my order was rude and unprofessional, responding dismissively when I asked questions.
I ordered a whole Hainanese chicken, but what I received was far from a whole chicken—several key parts, like the wings and thigh bones, were missing. Additionally, the sauce was not the authentic Hainanese chicken sauce, which was quite disappointing.
Overall, the poor service and lack of authenticity in the food make this a place I won’t be...
