While recently dining at the admiral pub, our local watering hole, a flood of reminders came over me as to why I had not been back in so long
1- the service It is actually pretty good, a few great servers, a few not at all. The male servers seem to be either miserable or in their own world 2-the food I've had a few times where the food has been quite tasty, that being said, it is very inconsistent. The oil does not seem to get changed enough, the chicken wings have gone from decent to beyond edible-had to return mine as they were way over breaded and hard and stale tasting. The servers have been good to try and take some items off the bills in the past, but I've also seen them get yelled at by the kitchen when we were sitting in the back last time. It was highly unprofessional, and to be honest, very uncomfortable. I felt sorry for the server! I stick to the curries, the Bronx bomber pizza, fish and chips (when oil is fresh and fish is not too greasy) the burgers are popular, but I find the beef burger is barely any meat abd mostly breadcrumbs, very over salted. The pork belly bites are rhe worst I have ever had to be quite honest, and don't even bother with the calamari unless you like to eat elastic bands. 3- the atmosphere The atmosphere can be good, usually more hyped up for sports events which is why I like to go. They do have a nice selection of entertainment throughout the week-trvia,(looks super fun and host seems awesome) poker, live music and karaoke. The place does seem to get rented out fairly often as well. It does have a lot of space. 4- the management I honestly don't know who runs this place. The servers don't really seem to know who there manager is either. I'm assuming it's family owned/operated. It has definitely gone downhill the last while. It seems like there is not much customer appreciation/satisfaction in this establishment these days, which needs to change, and fast. Eg- Last time we were there my husband and his friend used the washroom which apparently was trashed - I beleive the the chef-shorter bald guy- (who was getting off of work) who they know from chitter chatter etc. And when they told him the condition of the bathroom, he shrugged his shoulders and left out the door. It was APPALLING to be honest! He did not even let anyone else know to go service the washroom. Little things like that go a longgggg way! Overall, the place has potential. But I know a good 10/15 people who also all know someone who has stopped coming for similar reasons. We have faith in you, please accept this as positive feed back and make the admiral...
Read moreDespite a reservation, made well in advance of our seniors event, our holiday celebration was a disaster. The pub hosted the World Cup Soccer event and had our group sitting between two tables of soccer fans with three large t.v. screens playing the game. When we said that was ridiculous that we wouldn't be able to hear ourselves think they moved us to a unheated room off the front door. It was so small that there were not enough seats for all our group and two of our members had to eat their luke warm meal standing up. Staff obviously knew what the situation was and should have informed us so we could have either cancelled or postponed our event. Instead we were shuffled off into a room that was so small for our group that the server couldn't move around the room. Food, cutlery, coffee which was served without cream, water glasses, and water pitchers which were delivered well into the meal service, all had to be handed around the table by the participants. Most unsanitary situation. The meal which was to consist of turkey dinner, which was served without cranberry sauce, coffee/tea, and desert, which consisted of burnt cookies. A truly awful experience, which was topped off by being charged full price plus an 18% tip. I'm sure the soccer fans were delighted with the pub as their needs seemed to be the only thing the staff were interested in. Extremely unhappy with the whole experience and can't believe the cavalier attitude of the manager, Mark. Our experience with Carlos the year before had us excited about hosting our event at the pub again this year. What a disappointment and despite sending reviews in we have yet to hear anything from the pub. They should invite the group back and do the...
Read moreThe admiral I heard has had a huge history, I was hoping to sort of view some of it but I sadly did not, what I did get however was crippling anxiety from just walking inside to see it very slow and not busy at all, made me think that it doesn’t get much business on karaoke nights, I know I went in, first thing I found when I sat down was a group of people, one person in the large group to be completely hammered, I do hope he got home safely and didn’t drive himself else wise that would be a huge huge huge issue for the pub, the other big issue I had was the service which wasn’t great to be perfectly honest. I don’t think I’ve had as bad as service at any place I’ve gone to in some time. The karaoke was good for what I did, some folks were a bit too loud with the percussion instruments they were using to have fun with, that and there was a group of people with a small kid with them that I feel was going to cause issues, thank goodness it did not become the case, I do know however the food, definitely needed to be improved upon. The service too, I didn’t really get much for service, and when it was time for me to get out of here I was having a even harder time to get my bill that I could pay so I could do that. Not mad at how the service was but I do think that there could have been a bit more attention paid to how slow it was and see if there’s anything else I could have had, like oh idk ask if I needed a napkin or two for my meal which I didn’t get any for. I just think that this was not a place I’ll order food from unless I go with friends. I think this may be better for having a drink or two with some people and enjoying that kind of...
