Bella Gelateria Gelato & Coffee — Restaurant in Burnaby

I have been a fan of the Bella Gelateria brand for many years, having enjoyed it at several of their storefronts and carts around the city. I was pleased to hear there was a new location opening in Brentwood. However, a poor first experience at this location has coloured my opinion: (1) The prices seem outrageous - $8+tax for 1 scoop in a cup, or $9+tax in a cone... this does not seem on par with competitors, who also make gelato with high quality ingredients. Food prices in general have increased, but considering competitor prices, this seems overly inflated. (2) Despite the store being essentially empty on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm, my friends and I were asked to leave because we we "disrupting the other customers"; the store only had 1 other party seated at the other side of the shop, and never once did they seem bothered by our group. We were making an average amount of noise, as would be expected of any group of people. Never once in my life have I been asked to leave a cafe due to noise, and my friends and I pride ourselves in being polite and respectful. It seemed completely unreasonable to be told we were disruptive when the store was essentially empty and no one else besides the employee seemed to be bothered. (3) the decor in the store is very bland and generic. (4) The ice cream and other items we ordered...

A couple weeks ago, I purchased a 600g gelato box from this location and was disappointed to find out that I was given short weight, with about 60g less than what was indicated on the menu. I've purchased at other locations before, but never bothered to measure the weight. While it's possible that this was a human error made by a new staff, it does raise a concern, the gelatos are sold by weight, yet the staff members only eyeball the amount they put into the box. While it's possible to get more than you purchased, you may also get less.

What's even more disappointing than the short weight is their business attitude. I emailed them the day after my purchase, but I never received a response from them. I guess the no response is a response of "we don't really care about customer satisfaction nor are we going to address the inconsistency issue".

Fortunately, this is the lower mainland. There are plenty of amazing gelato places that also use "high-quality ingredients", but don't use it to gaslight...

I recently visited Bella Gelateria at the Amazing Brentwood location and was impressed! While their award-winning handcrafted gelato is well-known, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their desserts and hot drinks. The gelato was soft and creamy, with a great selection of flavours. The desserts were also top-notch. I will definitely be returning!
