Bona Fide BBQ 百味燒臘 — Restaurant in Burnaby

When we were in line, the server did not serve the people in front of us. She came to serve us instead. It was odd. So we told the lady at the beginning of the queue to go first. After serving that lady, the server came back to us instead of serving the elder woman before us. We looked at the server and she said, "You guys go first." She made us look bad by skipping to serve the people in front of us. So we looked at the elder woman and the elder woman ignored us. Then she told us to go before her. In addition, we were surprised that they removed all the Chinese words from the menu. That was unusual for Chinese food places.

We ordered Honey BBQ Pork and Roasted Pork with Rice to go. The server did not give us chopsticks; she only gave us spoons which was weird and we needed to ask for more napkins. Also, she did not tie the take out bag for us; she just handed the bag to us. Moreover, all the meat was cold; only the rice was hot and there were only two pieces of broccoli with the rice (contrary to the photos). The BBQ Pork were small chunks; they did not look as good as the photos online. The Roasted Pork did not have much meat; it was mostly fat and they were small...

The BBQ pork is always up to standard. It's delicious and al dente. However the lady who served me today was so impolite. I requested less rice for myself and regular for my companion. I asked if I could get a bit more veggie while I requested for less rice. She immediately replied with her long face that you need to pay more for veggie! Ok fine I didn't want more veggie then. Then when I paid for my food, I asked her which one was less rice. She was so blunt responding that she forgot! WAHT?!?! Did she think that I was begging her food? Or was I given food for free? Without the customers, how can your shop sustain for rent and wages and other expenses! That lady needs to be trained her attitude is in this job. If she doesn't understand customers are the key to sustain business, please don't work here. Please go start up your own business that you can shout to...

Recently opened Bona Fide BBQ caught my eye the moment I stepped into the food court with their long lineups. Honestly would you give this place a 10/10 No!... but which restaurant is actually perfect especially inside a food court. I ordered their 2 item ( bbq pork 50lean/50fat & roast duck). Bbq pork was pretty on point however the roast duck was quite lean and dry... maybe the ducks aren't currently in season?! Presentation as simple as it can get but it was just perfect for me. Meat over rice with broccoli garnish on the side and ladle of the marinated sauce over everything. Overall, if your craving for HK style BBQ meat around the Burnaby Brentwood area... I definitely recommend. One thing I would really like to see is if they added HK style ice lemon tea/milk tea/lemon coke. Some staple drinks that would pair with the food on the menu....
