Wish I could give 0 star! we being south Indian lover, we are the regular visitor to this place even though service is below par since food used to be good here....But food quality has really gone down and service, there is nothing good to talk about...staff doesn't know how to talk to guest and manager/owner is even worse. In our last visit, we were group of 13 people, we had 2 incidents I would like to mention This excludes regular service issues which we all already know!
Even after requesting to bring kids food first while placing orders and several times later, staff didn't bother to listen and rudely said it will take time, we will do other item first, you have to wait ! they don't even see kids are hungry, how insensitive! eventually they got it at end after an hour as they promised!
They couldn't manage to get us one table and they asked us to divide in 2 group. When we went to counter to pay the bill(they don't get machine to table), they didn't bother to show us bill and told us the amount, we asked them to divide in 4 equal transaction and after 2 person paid bill with tip, we asked for bill to verify orders, we found they added gratuity. We were surprised they didn't even bother to tell us about that prior to payment even though they see we are adding tip on top of that. Do they supposed to get 25-30% tip for this kind of service.... ??? We tried to explain even if we came in group we divided in 2 tables and each table order was taken separately and count was less than 8 people (that's when they charge gratuity), so it shouldn't be charged first of all and if you do you should tell the customer that's its added so customer can decide if they should pay tip on top. I don't even think they even qualify for tip but I do pay every time. Then we asked for manager and to our surprise staff came back saying Manager is "VERY BUSY and DON'T HAVE TIME TO MEET CUSTOMER" but when we firmly said we wont talk to staff, finally MANAGER came along with 2 more people -- see how busy they were (oh they were saying he is OWNER too), of course he didn't bother to understand situation, started screaming and rudely said pay and GO! we were feeling like we are talking to ....... and realized we just wasted our time trying giving them feedback for future! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME ..but we made sure he refunds gratuity and tip for the behavior and service ! what a chaos it was to settle that , that's an...
Read moreI have been to hundreds of restaurants in my life and this was by far the worst!
I brought a friend and my family here. We arrived at 7:20 pm and ordered our food soon after. After a few reminders to the staff, we finally got our drinks and appetizer. Two large groups of people arrived about 1/2 hour after we did and placed their orders. The other groups of people started to get their food whilst we were still waiting! At about 8:45, we asked where our order was. Our new server, who said he was the manager, said quite nonchalantly, that our initial server must have forgotten to give in our order (without even checking with the kitchen!), which I find hard to believe as we had reminded him about our kid's allergies and spiciness of the food after submitting our original order. Anyways, at this stage, we were quite upset and offered to pay for our drinks and appy and leave (this is the first time in the life I ever left a restaurant in this way). Our new server said we didn't have to pay (which is why they got one star) but did not seem remorseful or apologetic in any way about us leaving!
Needless to say, I cannot comment about the food. However, as our kids were extremely hungry, we went to the Subway next door and I will give them 4.5 stars out of 5 for their service and food (0.5 stars off as Subway was a little on...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at Chettinad Restaurant in Burnaby. I visited with two friends specifically to enjoy some dosas, a dish I had heard great things about. However, our dining experience left much to be desired.
We ordered three dosas and requested that the masala be spread evenly throughout the dosa rather than being concentrated in the middle. To my surprise, our server informed us that this request could not be fulfilled. Not willing to accept this answer, I asked if the chef could accommodate our request. After a minute, the server returned and informed us that the chef was unable to make the adjustment.
As someone who works in the hospitality industry and manages a Restaurant in Downtown Vancouver, I understand the importance of accommodating customer requests, especially when they are as simple as spreading masala evenly on a dosa. It was disappointing to encounter such inflexibility and lack of willingness to accommodate our request.
I had high hopes for my experience at Chettinad, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. I hope that the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and considers ways to improve its customer service and flexibility in the future. As a fellow professional in the industry, I know that small gestures like this can make a big difference in customer...
