COBS Bread — Restaurant in Burnaby

A first time Cobs virgin, I am so stoked I decided to visit this morning and now love this joint! First of all... the heavenly smell when you walk in, especially since I made an early morning stop (which their opening times are awesome to grab a fresh Loaf for a wholesome breakfast) is literally incredible. Your wowed at the almost blinding golden crust everywhere whilst drooling like a dog. Their selection is great! All products made fresh with minimal and wholesome ingredients for a super yummy and fantastic grade product. The lady here literally made my day, super kind, approachable and upbeat. She offered to cut my Loaf for me and sliced regulard or thick. It was an absolute delight visiting this bakery this morning to he honest. I also love how Cobs gives back to the community through profits and their own initiatives, a great company is one that supports and allows other local businesses to leverage and thrive with them. Don't forget to donate to our local Burnaby halfway house for only a buck! Every cent counts. Today, I witnessed the most disgusting behaviour at this store. And I want to clarify - it was not on behalf of the staff. A woman came in with her daughter wanting to return some buns she didn’t like. She was informed the company policy prevents her from doing this. It makes sense - when you buy something at a restaurant, Safeway, wherever, you don’t get to open it, taste it, subjectively dislike it, and then return it. You take the loss and you know for next time that it isn’t your favourite. This woman whined and harassed the staff about this ridiculous request until another customer had to set her straight. As she walked out, she muttered “I’m going to speak to your manager,” so I just wanted to make sure I set the record straight before happens. This woman was a complete kook and the staff were completely polite in declining her spoiled,...

My family and I often visit Cobs Bread since it’s close to our home. Until now, the staff have always been friendly. However, it seems that one particular staff member has recently become a problem. Every time any of my family members visit, we feel uncomfortable because of this person. Their tone of voice, facial expression—everything—comes across as rude.

It’s happened more than once that we go to buy bread in the morning in a good mood, only to have that mood spoiled by this staff member. We will continue to visit Cobs Bread because the other staff are friendly. In fact, I am not someone who usually posts negative feedback. However, after several visits, I felt I needed to say something because I believe this employee should receive training.
