Great Korean restaurant. The menu was easy to read and straightforward. There were a few combos on the menu as well. The staff there was nice and the decor was clean.
The food. I ordered the seafood tofu soup (12.99) and the chicken hot pot rice with mayo (13.99). It came with three small sides dishes which were light and not very salty or overwhelming. The tofu soup was really good, flavorful, and were very generous with the seafood toppings. Usually a seafood tofu soup will come with a muscle, 2 small shrimp and some pieces of squid. However, here at DooBoo, I was amazed that there was FIVE shrimps, lots of small muscles and other toppings. The portion for tofu was similar to other korean places as it also came with the standard egg. The rice came in a hot stone pot and the waiter would put it into a bowl for you and ask if you would like to add tea into the pot for easier access to the rest of the rice later on. I found myself continuously sipping on the last bits of the soup even after I had finished the meal.
The chicken hot pot rice with mayo was extremely flavorful too. There was a generous portion of chicken with onions, seaweed and drizzled with mayo. At first I was a little worried that the restaurant would add too much mayo but they put the perfect amount to where the mayo would not overpower or feel heavy. With everything stirred together, it felt like a well orchestrated symphony of flavors. The salty sauce with a sweet, creamy mayo taste along with tender/moist chicken pieces and soft onion to go along; the seaweed added the final touch. Highly recommend both dishes.
I would say that the prices here is a $1-2 dollars more compared to other Korean restaurants. I did not order the Bulgogi but they were ($15.99) There are a few parking spaces out front but plenty of parking beside the restaurant in the residential neighborhood with no restrictions. Solid 8/10 meal. I wished the tea was a little hotter though as it was less than lukewarm (but this does not affect...
Read moreI’m blown away by how good the reviews are. Did I come on a night when the manager wasn’t working or something?
First dish: Bibimbap
One of us ordered a bibimbap and it was incredibly dry. You couldn’t even tell if there was any sesame oil at all. No matter how much gochujang was used it was still dry somehow. Mushrooms were also very very dry and had no flavour at all. Something I’ve never seen with this dish.
Overall something just tasted off, like some steps or ingredients were missing, or it was cooked by someone who doesn’t know how to cook it. Finally the rice was already black (yes really) and stuck to the bottom of the stone bowl when it arrived. Again, the first time I’ve experienced this anywhere!
Second Dish: Seafood Tofu Soup
The second dish was insanely salty. Also it had nowhere near enough seafood. Tofu was fine, but then again that’s pretty hard to get wrong
Table Service:
Staff were friendly enough, thefood arrived in good time, but no one came to refill our teas for the full duration of the time we were there. There was an empty table next to ours with all the leftover food/dirty plates from the previous customers - it was already there when we arrived, and the staff only got around to cleaning it away by the time we were just about done eating. Not sure why as the restaurant was about a quarter full. Bit strange.
If you already have a couple of go-to Korean spots and you were thinking of giving somewhere else a try, I’d avoid DooBoo, and question the legitimacy of the...
Read moreOne of my go to places for Korean tofu soup. The staff here are always friendly and the interior is clean and spacious. Below is the breakdown of what I've ordered:
Tofu soup with beef (spicy level) - the broth was really flavorful filled with Korean chilli really complements one another. The meat is seasoned beef (i believe its like bulgogi type seasoning) and it is tender and full of flavor, has a sweet after taste. The tofu that was used here is really soft and creamy, I think the tofu they use is the egg tofu but i could be wrong. The saltiness of the broth mixed with the creamy texture of their soft tofu really gives a unique savory experience.
Korean vegetable deepfried dumpling - nothing much for me to say over here, it is just vermicili noodles, chives, and variety of herbs. The taste is really just meh, not really worth it at all, but presentation of this dish was pretty good and made it look really appetizing,
Side dishes (free of charge) - kimchi, this taste homemade, the fermentation taste unique to dooboo only. Cabbage was crispy and flavorful Fish cake slices, was tasty and chewy, similar texture of those of oden, but thinly sliced Shoots & onion, was crunchy and crispy, the onion were also marinated so the spiciness of raw onion is not there.
TLDR; order the tofu soup, its highly recommended, price is far, staff is friendly, clean and spacious environment.
