The Nikkei Matsuri held every year at this cultural centre brings the Japanese community together, but it also welcomes anyone interested in participating. The activities here are planned in such a way that families with young children will have an area where they can play and win some prizes. However, all ages will find something attractive, as the program also includes music numbers (traditional and J-Pop), martial arts exhibitions, odori dances, and a long etc. Of course, one of the biggest draws is the possibility of trying different Japanese food options, sweet and savoury, or sipping sake from a variety of brewers, Or sipping a cold drink made with green tea in different combinations. Something for everyone!... Another highlight is the well-rounded selection of vendors offering jewelry, hand-made cards, kimono and other clothing items. The Nikkei Centre staff and volunteers do a very good job in terms of keeping this festival engaging, fun and interesting. On a warm summer day, this matsury is the...

Before Hi-Genki closed its doors to the public my Friends and Relatives shared super delicious meals together with laughter and camaraderie. There were also our relatives that lived at the Nikkei Senior Centre and we are Thankful such an establishment was built. Many cultural happenings began and it has become a Full-Time scene of gatherings and interactions. Thanks 🙏 to All of the Japanese Canadian Nikkei, Sansei,Yonsei and many, many Volunteers who allow us to learn and experience the history of those who have suffered, sacrificed and left unwanted memories but; necessity ones for the Future Generations to learn what their own trusting Canadian Government can and had done. To those who worked endlessly and tirelessly, like Mr. Art Miki and his Associates, who brought about righting the wrongs by giving the next Generation a chance that this shall never repeat again.

Thanking you All:

Patricia Naomi Yodogawa-Wood

This is a great facility to connect with events and history particularly related to the Japanese experience in this area. Lots of research and information going on about the internment of Japanese during WWII and other locally relevant background. Around major holidays in the Japanese calendar the Centre holds events with Arts, crafts, activities and awesome for vendors. The used book fair held a few times a year is a good place to get Japanese language books, movies and some CDs. The only drawback is that while it is a large facility it would be great to have more space for the large events, particularly to house food vendors: there are some really great food options that show up, but I think the number possible at each event is quite limited. Not really a criticism, I just would love more of these vendors to get to show off the more authentic and wide variety of Japanese foods that many people may not have experienced. If you see an event on, go...

First-time customer alert !!⚠️📢 - Went here to attend a cultural farmers market event. 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾🚜 -Plenty of parking along the streets that is free parking.🅿️ -Entrance and signage were clear ✅️ - Good place for family and friends to see. - Plenty of seats/tables to sit and eat and with a room for kid activity.👪 - I enjoyed the museum and the upstairs area that goes through the history of the museum.🖼 - There were many vendors for cultural day and a grocery store on the side, which was interesting.⛺️ - It's definitely a good experience for family, couples, and friends.👪👌 It would be nice if there were more seating areas outside.🪑 Updated: I have removed the Dates poster so other viewers do not get confused. However, since the poster was on display, it indicates only an event date and does not apply for future years ahead.

History is well preserved in the museum dedicated to the Japanese Canadians. Ground floor is designed for sports related activities and meetings. Upstairs you can learn about the Japanese heritage since 1877 until those days. It is sad to know that thousand of innocent people were held into custody in those internment camps during the 2nd WW. But let’s leave the past in the past. This venue is beautiful and well maintained. There is also a Japanese language school upstairs to preserve the culture within this community. Worth a visit!
