The Nikkei Matsuri held every year at this cultural centre brings the Japanese community together, but it also welcomes anyone interested in participating. The activities here are planned in such a way that families with young children will have an area where they can play and win some prizes. However, all ages will find something attractive, as the program also includes music numbers (traditional and J-Pop), martial arts exhibitions, odori dances, and a long etc. Of course, one of the biggest draws is the possibility of trying different Japanese food options, sweet and savoury, or sipping sake from a variety of brewers, Or sipping a cold drink made with green tea in different combinations. Something for everyone!... Another highlight is the well-rounded selection of vendors offering jewelry, hand-made cards, kimono and other clothing items. Read moreBefore Hi-Genki closed its doors to the public my Friends and Relatives shared super delicious meals together with laughter and camaraderie. There were also our relatives that lived at the Nikkei Senior Centre and we are Thankful such an establishment was built. Many cultural happenings began and it has become a Full-Time scene of gatherings and interactions. Thanks 🙏 to All of the Japanese Canadian Nikkei, Sansei,Yonsei and many, many Volunteers who allow us to learn and experience the history of those who have suffered, sacrificed and left unwanted memories but; necessity ones for the Future Generations to learn what their own trusting Canadian Government can and had done. To those who worked endlessly and tirelessly, like Mr. Art Miki and his Associates, who brought about righting the wrongs by giving the next Generation a chance that this shall never repeat again.
Thanking you All:

The only drawback is that while it is a large facility it would be great to have more space for the large events, particularly to house food vendors: there are some really great food options that show up, but I think the number possible at each event is quite limited. Not really a criticism, I just would love more of these vendors to get to show off the more authentic and wide variety of Japanese foods that many people may not have experienced. If you see an event on, go...
