B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine
Address: 7090 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC V5E 1E7
Following a recommendation, we decided to visit B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine.
For appetizers, we chose the salt and pepper frog legs, served with homemade house pickles. Despite the small size of the frog legs, they were crunchy and well-seasoned. The homemade pickles added a nice tangy contrast to the savory frog legs, making for a well-balanced starter.

For the main courses, we ordered the special crab meat soup and the lobster tomato soup.
Special Crab Meat Soup: This dish featured a simmered pork bone broth with crab meat, tapioca noodles, sliced pork hock, deep-fried soft shell crab, cilantro, green onion, and fried garlic. The soup had a good flavor and a thick consistency, though the deep-fried soft shell crab was a bit small. The combination of ingredients provided a rich and hearty experience, although a bit more of the deep-fried soft shell crab would have been appreciated.
Rating: 7 out of 10
Lobster Tomato Soup: The soup included a simmered pork bone broth with fermented shrimp paste, crab meat balls, pork hock, tofu, tomatoes, and lobsters, served with special Vietnamese vegetables. The portion size was adequate, with good flavor and tender lobster. However, the dish lacked additional ingredients that would have enhanced it further. The broth had a robust and savory profile, but the dish could have benefited from more variety in textures and flavors.
Ambiance: The restaurant’s ambiance was pleasant, with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The decor was modest but clean, contributing to an overall enjoyable dining experience.
Service: The service was below average and requires improvement. The staff seemed inattentive at times, this detracted from the overall experience and is an area that needs significant enhancement.
Price: Reasonable. The prices were fair for the portion sizes and quality of the food, making it a good value for what was offered.
Verdict: While the food quality was commendable, the service needs significant enhancement. The restaurant has potential, with flavorful dishes and a pleasant atmosphere, but improving the service would greatly enhance the overall...
Read moreFood: 5/5, Service: 5/5 I have experienced a Vietnamese specialty restaurant, excellent in everything from the space of the restaurant, to the servings and the decoration of the dishes. Strongly recommended to everyone!
First, about the space of the restaurant, it is a modern space with an aesthetic and eye-catching restaurant decoration. The space is cool and air-conditioned, very suitable for those who want to experience Vietnamese cuisine in this hot weather.
Secondly, about the food, I really have to say the word "perfect" when experiencing Vietnamese cuisine at B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine. True to its name, this is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant full of Vietnamese specialties. The first dish I had was the "papaya salad". A sour taste of lime combined with the sweet and savory taste of fish sauce, along with shredded papaya, shrimp and a few other things create a Vietnamese dish, which suits my taste very well. I believe it is also a great choice for an appetizer to start your main course. In addition, "crunchy wings" are also a great dish for foodies like me. It is crispy fried chicken wings, with fish sauce covered on them to create a rich, sweet and savory taste. You should try some of the skewers on the menu of the restaurant, they are very flavourful and fragrant. Some other main dishes like "beef stew pho" and "betel beef vermicelli" are also Vietnamese specialties that you should try at B&D once.
Especially about the restaurant's service, they served us very enthusiastically and friendly. Thank you so much for giving us an enjoyable and happy experience. I am Vietnamese living here for a long time. I am very happy to experience delicious dishes at B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine with a great space.
Good price as well! With only $15-30 per person, you can fill your empty stomach with 2-3 wonderful dishes and be served wholeheartedly at B&D restaurant. I ordered a lot for me and my friend. I called 5 dishes (3 appertizers and 2 main dishes). It was so bussin! Here is one of the most amazing dishes I have ever tasted. I love this restaurant so much. Of course, I will...
Read moreVietnamese restaurants aren’t typically known for their service, but this place was an exception. Staff was polite and gave us great recommendations as it was our first time. The ambiance is very casual (typically Vietnamese place), but also quite clean.
We ordered the Frog Legs (fish sauce), Special Crab Soup and Lobster Tomato Soup - supposedly the 3 most popular items. The frog legs were fried well, having a nice crunch, not very oily and the meat was cooked perfectly. I will admit, I found it a bit too salty, but you get used to it and the pickled vegetables helped balance the flavour with acidity. It’s not that common to find frog legs within Vancouver from my experience, so I’d definitely recommend trying this - its relatively similar to chicken in terms of flavour. The special crab soup was probably my favourite of the two soups. The deep fried soft shelled crab was a nice touch and tasted like what you’d expect. The soup didn’t taste too fishy, but had a subtle seafood flavour and I appreciated the chunks of crab meat. It was my first time having tapioca noodles and they have a great chewy texture - I’m a fan. Lastly, we had the lobster tomato soup. Lobster was cooked well and presentation looked good, but I felt besides that it was quite average. Being that it’s a $32 bowl of noodles, they could’ve made the soup have a stronger flavour, it really tasted like a mild port tomato soup. There was really nothing to rave about.
Overall, the food was pretty good. It gave me a nicer viet restaurant vibe but I felt I paid for it through their prices as it is pricier than your typical Vietnamese lunch. I will admit we did order more of the specialty items and portions are definitely enough to make you full, but I think that’s what makes B&D stand out. If you come here, I’d definitely try the more unique items that you don’t find at every restaurant like the frog legs. I’ll be returning to try more of their items, but expect your bill to be around $40-50 per person depending on...
