I did cancel my order and get a refund, but I want to warn other customers of what can happen. A few weeks ago I asked for a quote for a custom gender reveal cake. I had a picture of what I wanted, I needed it for 10 people. They wrote down the details and took a picture of the cake I wanted. They then told me they needed to speak with the baker to get the exact price, based on the custom decorations etc. Totally fine.
They called a few days later and said the cake would be $85. I asked how much if I wanted a cake for 12 people, and they said $125. I said the $85 worked for our budget, but I didn't have the gender yet so would need to wait until I knew which color before placing the order. I asked how much time in advance they needed the order, they said a week beforehand.
So, this past weekend I went to the bakery to confirm the order and give the gender. I was then told they had to re-fill out the information because they had lost/misplaced the paper they filled out last time I was here (already a bit unprofessional in my opinion, but fine). The girl helping me did say she remembered the picture of the cake. We redid all the details. 10 people, the design in the same picture etc. There was no change to what I had originally asked for, only the addition of the filling color for gender. But when she said the price, suddenly it was $125.
I explained I was here a couple weeks ago and was quoted $85. The girl went to the back to speak to the baker and returned saying that because of the many details of the cake decoration it would be $125, but they maybe could reduce the price a little if I agreed to less of the flowers on the cake. I was flabbergasted.
Again, nothing I asked for had changed, they even said they remembered the picture so it could not be confusion over the decorations. The baker had approved the original $85 price when I was given confirmation via phone, but on the day I wanted to pay, the paper that had that price was missing, and suddenly it would be 50% more than what was agreed upon. No apology or further explanation.
I was so shocked I just paid like I planned, but regretted it immediately. I don't understand their business model, I found this completely unprofessional, dishonest, and greedy. Thankfully, I found another bakery who agreed to make the cake with all the above details for the $85 price, in writing in an email, so I cancelled my order here and went with the other bakery. From now on I'll always get a copy of prices in writing, and won't ever go back to this bakery...
Read moreOkay for fortuna bakery. I gave them a 5 out of five stars for every single thing because the food is amazing. I always get food there when I can and they also make sandwiches now which is super delicious. You can choose your own ham. You can choose your own cheese and other other stuff if you want more stuff in it. It's super delicious! The service is always amazing. They always say hello when you come in and then they always try to help their customers as fast as they can because most of them are really like really really busy. But you know honestly you just have to have patience because fortuna bakery is one of those bakeries that is very well known and is very popular. So if you if anybody goes to that bakery just be patient. You know, don't be rude to the workers cuz they're you know they're trying their best. But like I said otherwise, our service is amazing and they're super friendly and that's what I love about it. And that's for the atmosphere goes. If you want to sit down and have coffee or like little pastries or whatever you're welcome to. They have limited seating yes, but they probably have like three tables with three chairs each. I believe sometimes I got but you know to be honest ly everybody that I've seen that goes into that bakery but take it to go because their food is that delicious and the coffee. Their coffee is so good as well. And like I said they're they're super friendly as well too. So you can't go wrong. You can't go wrong with going to have a look or a visit for tuna bakery because...
Read moreIf you have the image of going to a bakery and buying a nice snack, a fresh pastry and a good coffee, this is not the place. There are only a handful of places you can go now to buy pasteis de nata, a Portuguese pastry. So when you walk into a Portuguese bakery you expect better. We ordered a sandwich, a coffee and 6 Pastéis de Nata. The sandwich was handed to us in a paper bag, no plates or napkins in sight. The lattes were served with all the sugar at the bottom of the cup and the pastries ($3 each) were cold and soggy, when they should be at the very least crisp and flaky. Extremely lackluster. My Mom on the way out mentioned that the pasteis were cold (latter stages of thawing) and the response from the girl at the till was "they are better when warmed up in the oven". This isn't a place to take anyone to experience "Portuguese flavour". It would have been embarrassing to present those pastries to anyone, let alone the fact I didn't even finish the one I started. Save your money,...
