I dont know what happened to this little industrial restaurant ?
I have been coming here for years and the food has always been good and large portions.
However twice in the past while I have been sitting right near the cashier my order was lost, like after 45 minutes of waiting I noticed people eating that had come to the restaurant long after me ! So, they said oh my so sorry and within about 10 minutes I finally got my order. Now I have been at some restaurants that have done this mistake and they have given me a free meal or at least a dessert but nothing.
So yesterday, I arrived at Fraser Park restaurant at about 12:20 pm , it was about 80 % full and there were about 5 people in front of me ordering their food , it's an industrial cafe you order and pay then they bring you your food. They give you a number on a metal stick that sits on your table so they know who ordered . So, after ordering I grabbed a coffee and sat close to the cashier and waited for my food , luckily I have a smart phone . I asked the person across from me it was ok to sit across from him, he said sure he was alone.
This man was just finishing a large bowl of their home made soup, their soups are very good and they sell litres of them for I think $7.00, I bought one to take home.
This man across from me was very friendly and we struck up a conversation, he was an Architect and had Googled the restaurant as he was in the area checking out a site his first time at this restaurant.
The waitress then brought him a large bowl of oatmeal ! I said wow, I can tell this is your first time here the portions are quite large, he said he was quite hungry ,we kept chatting. It was now at least 30 minutes since I placed my order and Mark the man I was chatting with now had a large mixed salad delivered to him. I was now laughing, I said boy you were not kidding when you said you were hungry.
Still no order of mine in site now it was about 45 minutes or more since I placed my order and Mark was starting his salad and someone took away his empty bowl of what was oatmeal. Well about 15 minutes later Mark the Architect finished his salad and Merisol the manager of the restaurant who took my order came to me and said I have bad news we are out of the turkey lunch special !
This after about an hour , Mark kind of laughed ,so, she said what else would you like I should have asked for my money back and gone somewhere else but I was hungry.
So, I ordered the other special which was shaved pork and rice with vegetables.
Mark left 5 minutes later I got his card cause I wanted to send him a picture of me when I worked at the white spot restaurant as a teenager, when the orders had to be out in 5 minutes because people had only 1 hour for lunch.
So, again I began the wait, and I waited then one guy said he would have the shaved pork special and Merisol said sorry were sold out !
I thought I hope they got enough for my order. Still no sign of my order am I on Saturday Night Live ?
I started looking around wondering what is going on finally I made eye contact. With Merisol , she looked towards the kitchen. Then about 5 minutes later my food arrived. It looked good but after biting into the pork I noticed it was a little spicey and that kind of food doesn't usually agree with me but i mixed it with the rice to lessen the spicey taste. The time now was about 1:50 pm I finished eating at about 2:10 pm and left 10 minutes approx of 2 hours.
So, if your in a hurry or only have an hour to eat I would not reccomend this place.
I have been coming here for quite a few years but I think this was the last straw !
It's not like they don't know me, I have repaired a broken fan motor in one of their bathrooms before and gave them a very good price and got paid with food !
So I don't know what their problem is but they must be very disorganized in the kitchen. I have included some pictures of Mark's food to get an idea of how large their...
Read moreFraser Park Restaurant is the very definition of a hidden gem located in South Burnaby. Those who know breakfast will without a doubt know this place. It is at the very end of Byrne Road in a completely industrial area. It is the unlikeliest of locations for an outstanding restaurant.
The outside of the restaurant is nothing to look at. In fact, it might even scare you off a little from going in. The parking lot can get pretty packed as it is quite small but if you go on a Saturday, the other shops on the same block will be closed and you'll have no issue finding a spot. The moment you walk in, the place lights up. The restaurant has a certain quirk about it and provides a cool old school feel.
The restaurant is more of a cafeteria than a formal restaurant. Once you enter, you'll walk up to the cashier and place your order. You'll be given a number and then you'll have to find a spot. The restaurant is fairly big and will seat 40 people at maximum capacity. Don't let the size fool you because finding a spot might be quite difficult. There is a long communal table in middle of the room with tables surrounding it.
We ordered the German Deluxe Breakfast and sat down. There is a water and ice station at the corner of the restaurant where you are expected to serve yourself. The wait was quite long (around 30 minutes) for the food but it was certainly worth it. The German Deluxe Breakfast on one plate came with three scrambled egg (omelette style with red peppers, green peppers, and lots of cheese), hashbrowns, bacon, and potato pancake. On the other plate it comes with 2 slices of toast (buttered) and schnitzel. They give you an option of what kind of bread you want when you ordered (white, brown, or multigrain).
Our first thoughts were "Wow, this is MASSIVE". The omelette was had loads of filling and tasted amazing. It was cheesy, soft, and gooey. It was absolutely everything you would want in an omelette. The hashbrown had mixture of really crispy pieces and other softer ones. It was seasoned well and tasted good. The copious amounts of bacon really puts all other breakfast places to shame. There was a lot of bacon and it was perfect. Salty, chewy, and crispy. The potato pancake had a mix of different veggies inside it. It was spongy and the perfect medium for their house made hot sauce. The toast was nicely buttered but still had a nice bite (wasn't lumpy/soft). The schnitzel was also nice but when combined with the gravy they provide, it becomes divine.
This is a lot of food for one person to finish so don't be shy to share this dish. We left full and were very happy. If you don't mind the wait and the cafeteria style restaurant, we would definitely recommend going to this place. They do have limited hours so you definitely want to plan it out before making the trip.
We wholeheartedly recommend the German Deluxe Breakfast. When we come back, we'll certainly be sure to try the other items...

You order at the back counter and then try to find a seat and wait for your order to come out. On most days, it's busy (especially during the breakfast hour) but the queue goes pretty quick.
Their Denver Omelette is huge with 3 eggs, ham, onions, peppers, and cheese... not to mention the large side of potatoes, toast, and fruit slice.
I opted for the German Breakfast but was disappointed because they were out of potato pancakes. Like the Denver omelette, this German Breakfast comes with 3 eggs but these are scrambled with sautéed peppers, onion, and cheese. This is a meaty plate with sausage, ham and bacon in addition to the hash browns, toast and fruit slice.
I'm really feeling a craving for the potato pancakes they have here... I'll have to come back for a revisit soon.
Well, it took me half a year to get a chance to come back here and I wound up ordering the same thing. This time, however, the German Breakfast did include one of their thin and tasty potato pancakes - score!
If you're not in the mood for breakfast, they also have a lunch menu. If you show up on Wednesday, you can order their German Lunch Special ($8) which comes with poached ham, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes. The ham was super tender and you get two links of that amazing bratwurst sausage. I tried ordering this one time before but I was too early so you have to time your visit right.
I came back for a revisit a couple of weeks later and noticed that they had a new English Breakfast option (under $9 I think) which includes creamy baked beans, toast, ham, sausage, sautéed mushrooms, sliced tomatoes, and eggs prepared to order.
Bit of advice: find the hot sauce that they have on the table... it's amazing!
UPDATE - March 2025: Still quite a busy spot and can be difficult to find a table. Food takes a while to come out. Had the a German Breakfast - sooo much food. Also ordered the French Toast but I think they forgot our order because it came out really late (and after someone noticed we didn't get our full order yet). The French toast is actual quite good and light and airy (easy to devour...
