Mon Paris Patisserie — Restaurant in Burnaby

Wish I could give 0 stars as I had a horrible experience! I placed an order with the owner through email to inquire if a seasonal cake that was advertised (the white chocolate cake with figs) could me made in a larger size where she therefore told me it could. The owner confirmed the cake order on August 12th where I placed the cake order for the morning of August 30th. I originally said I would pick it up August 29th, but since the cake looked delicate I said I would come the morning of August 30th so that the cake would be fresh for the birthday event in the afternoon. I also specified which location she wanted me to pick up the cake from and she said specifically the Burnaby location. I arrive around 2 hours after opening (around 11:00am) and my CAKE ORDER WAS NOT THERE!!! This cake was no where to be seen. The lady working there told me the owner would call me in 20 minutes as she was driving where it took her far longer than that to call me (because she didn't want to face the fact the cake wasn't made and didn't know what to tell me) as I was waiting there and she wasn't driving because she was texting the other lady working there the entire time!!! They ended up telling me that the cake was at the other location and still needs to be decorated. There's absolutely no excuse or reason as to why the cake was not done especially when the cake order was placed over 2 weeks in advance. Due to all this we had to cancel the birthday event in the afternoon and re-schedule for the evening as I was waiting around in their shop waiting for answers for so long! I ended up telling the owner at this point since I do not have a cake I will need one on the house to compensate. She insisted she would deliver the cake to me and I kept telling her how she will deliver it to me if I wasn't going to be at home, and it's very unprofessional to deliver a cake to a fancy restaurant. She ended up telling the lady there to give me a cake and it was a Strawberry cake. The cake was HORRIBLE! The entire cake was gelatin based and all the guests said that it was by far the worst cake they have ever had. Do not recommend this...

Interesting experience. Full stop. I am a first time customer of this business and ordered a cake to try... I ordered the caramel cake with bergamot filling. Visually speaking the cake was gorgeous however, taste left something to be desired.

If you are anticipating the cake to have a light sweet taste you would be wrong. This cake tastes more of a burnt / sharp caramel with an overtly citrus filling. To each their own. You may like it.

The more startling thing to me is the service I got after bringing my comments to the bakers attention. I wrote the Baker letting them know that I was not satisfied with my cake and that I ultimately threw it away as it was not very good (in my opinion).

The Baker responded with: "Unfortunately I am not sure what solution you are looking for.

The caramel is by definition is burnt sugar. If you do not like the taste of caramel perhaps different cake was supposed to be ordered.

All the cakes are made according to recipies we follow over the years.

We do understand that it may be a different expectation from your part on how products supposed to taste.

However we can not provide a refund based on a fact that the taste was different than expected.

We are sorry for your experience and hope you can find a better suited shop for your future celebrations."

Let me say this- I did not ask for a refund nor was I expecting one. I was however, hoping that the bakery may have offered to repurchase with a different item. Again this wasn't done but....ok.

In the end as a consumer the message I take away from this owner is "we bake things a certain way and if you don't like the taste shop...

Born and raised in Victoria I'm pretty used to friendly customer service. I asked my bf to go in to get me a bunch of desserts from there as I found out about this place from my boss and coworkers who ordered online before. How embarrassing big mistake. When my bf came in, no greeting no nothing, no thank you after. The lady pretty much ignored him. My bf showed her the things he would like, asked her a question, she ignored him so he had to ask her the 2nd time. They weren't even busy and no other person talking to them. A couple was already seated. It's too bad I didn't go in to educate her. If you are clueless about customer service (didn't realize this place was known for poor customer service until i read reviews) just don't come to work being vile, haggered, and jaded, it's a super turn off. The company's image goes hand and hand with their products and align with their customer service so don't make food with hate, make food with love. The ham&cheese croissant sandwich "taste like death" 0/5 and my mushroom tarte was ok...2/5, our favorite item was the Opera, it was good! Standard macaroons (they were fine to me and i didn't find them dry as another reviews had mentioned, but the lavender one tastes like soap). I will definitely be letting my boss and coworkers know about the attitude of this place. Luckily there are so many other delicious dessert places in Burnaby and Vancouver :) We all will be going elsewhere that doesn't give off...
