Had dinner here last night and the food was good enough that I'd certainly go there again. It was my first time at a vegetarian place, however I've had lots of good vegan food—mainly from Buddhist temples.
I ordered a large Vegan Chicken Rice Noodle Soup; my sister, the Spicy Lemon Grass Vegan Chicken; and we split a Combo #3. The chicken pho wasn't especially large nor small and tasted very comparable to the meat version of it. The vegan chicken pieces looked and tasted practically chicken. Oddly, the lemon grass chicken didn't come with any rice, which is a good thing that combo #3 does. Again the chicken pieces here are similar to the pho's and resembled chicken very well—they both even had "chicken skin." The ham balls and chicken balls that came with combo #3 were pretty decent while the egg roll and spring roll was average—though my sister particularly liked the spring roll, along with the peanut sauce which I also found average. I've had much better egg rolls and spring rolls from temples that unfortunately I've yet to find something comparable at any restaurant.
Service was fine. We came around 5PM on a Saturday and there was one other customer that just finished. By the time we left, two other tables had customers. When I went to pay, I had to wait for about 5 seconds for a staff member to end a call so processing of credit card payment could go through.
Pricing, while not super cheap, it's not really expensive either. The menu, with prices, can be found on their website.
Decor and setting is okay. It's a small place with maybe a dozen tables so if your party is more than 4, you'll be seated at two or more tables.
This is a Vietnamese place with Vietnamese staff. While it really doesn't matter, I just find it interesting that, for example, I'll sometimes go to a Japanese place and the staff their...
Read moreWe went to this Vietnamese Vegan Restaurant tucked away unobtrusively in the "sleepy "Crest Strip Mall in Burnaby /New Westminister area today for lunch . The Restaurant is owned & run by a Vietnamese Family & reportedly been around for past 21 years. We ordered the Mixed Fried Rice, Veg Noodle, Eggplant Coconut Curry in Claypot & Spring Rolls. All the dishes were tasty & nice -though the Eggplant curry lacked more spice & seasoning. However the Restaurant had all kinds of Chilli, Sriracha, Sweet , Plum sauces & these added to the flavour. All dishes were freshly made & served piping hot -specially the Spring Rolls (we had 2 helpings of this dish). Prices were reasonable & service was good, pleasing & efficient. The Restaurant is very Spartan but homely & the Toilet was kept in immaculate condition . The only negative point I like to add is that the Rice used in the Fried Rice was a coarse variety with large grains instead of the usual Jasmine Rice. ( Indian Basmati Rice would have enhanced the flavour further).
We will return to this Restaurant again in the near future. (Restaurant closes on Sun, Mon, Tue...
Read moreMy partner and I aren’t vegan but we are huge fans of Vietnamese food and trying new restaurants. We decided to give this spot a try for a date night and were throughly impressed.
The pho was vegan beef was very filling had lots of flavour considering it had no meat. Definitely needed a little help from some of the sauces but was overall very satisfying and filling.
What really stole the show for us were the vegan bbq pork bao. For $5 we honestly didn’t expect a very big portion size. However, when our appetizer was brought out were both shocked at the how generous the portion was. The buns were so soft and delicious, they were honestly some of the best bao we have ever had, vegan or not. We are already making plans to go back here to specially order these to bring to share with friends!
We will be sure to return to the spot again soon to give some of the other appetizers a shot (and...
