About two years ago, a new entry into the fast-food fried chicken market opened up in Vancouver at the corner of SE Marine Drive and Main Street called HiFive24. Similar to Church’s Chicken, HiFive24 operates 24-hours so you can get your fix for fried chicken at any time of the day. Unlike Church’s, however, HiFive24 also offers up baked chicken in addition to fried chicken. Fast forward a couple of years and HiFive24 has opened up their second location… this time in the Crest area of Burnaby. I visited in late September shortly after they opened and ordered the 2-Piece Meal ($8.79) and added a small gravy ($1.40). The nice thing about this place is you have options for regular/spicy and for fried/baked chicken. Although I’ve had both baked and fried chicken from their Vancouver location, I wanted to check it out here as well to see how it stacked up. For my meal, I picked a mix of spicy deep-fried drumstick along with regular baked thigh and it came with steak-cut fries and a drink. The spicy wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be but it had a nice, crispy crunch to the skin which kept the meat on the inside very juicy. Similarly, the seasoned chicken thigh was appropriately juicy. The fries had a nice crispness to the exterior while the interior of the fries was soft and fluffy – a good combination for dipping in the gravy. Both chicken and fries were freshly made and the gravy was piping hot. All in all, it was a pretty good visit. I came back a week later and tried to order the Spicy Chicken Strips Meal ($10.99) but they were all sold out so I had to wait about 10-15 minutes for them to make a new batch. I’m not sure why I bothered to wait for the spicy version because it really wasn’t very spicy (it didn’t taste at all like their spicy fried chicken). While the strips themselves remind me of what you get at Church’s Chicken, I was disappointed by the quality of the honey mustard sauce that came with the meal. I was a bit divided on their Home Style Spicy Chicken Sandwich Meal ($10.99 regular less $3 for the lunch special and plus $1.49 for the small gravy). For your money, you get a fairly thick piece of fried chicken sitting on a bed of lettuce and tomato. I found that some bits of the chicken were a bit stringy but that might have been due to the cut. The wedge-style fries, as on previous occasions, were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Going back to basics I returned for a 2 Piece Meal with Fries and Small Gravy but this time I made sure to get both pieces as spicy. Spicy is really the way to go here. I did have a hankering to try some of their other menu items so I ordered a 10 Piece Chicken Nuggets meal on (American) Thanksgiving… figured chicken was close enough to turkey! I was pleasantly surprised that they also gave me a bonus free chicken strip because they wanted to show me the difference between the chicken nuggets and the chicken strips. The nuggets by themselves was exactly what you would expect from processed chicken meat (not that this is a bad thing). I actually really liked the spicy dipping sauce. Overall, I think HiFive 24 is a fairly good place to fill up on your fried chicken cravings with many similarities with Church’s. It’s nice that they do have the option for baked chicken here but, for me, I’d stick to the fried version.

Not worth it. I showed up at HiFive on 10th Ave in Burnaby, BC at 5:00am because I work night shift and the options for dinner type food at that time are pretty limited. When I showed up the front door was locked - even though HiFive advertises full 24hr service. I called the store and the worker inside said that they just cleaned the floors so they locked the front doors to keep them clean. Ok, fine. I placed my order over the phone and intended to use the drive thru. No problem. When I pulled up to the drive thru window there was a sign on the window that said the window was broken so use the front door. Huh? The worker had to use a bottle to prop open the window in order to serve me. Safety issue? I think so. I informed the worker that the window should be fixed to prevent anyone from being injured if it were to fall unexpectedly. As for the food, I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken, after the first bite just fell apart. It was not crunchy at all, like one would expect with fried chicken, and the skin did not stay attached to the chicken which means it was not coated properly. The fries were not salted at all (this may be normal for HiFive so I didn't judge too hard). Sorry HiFive, but I felt very dissatisfied with the experience and food. I would recommend sticking to Popeyes or KFC. 1 star.

We have takeout Wednesday in our house & I've been wanting to try Hi Five Chicken for a while now especially since the other fried chicken places have not been living up to our expectations. So while I was a bit hesitant because I didn't want to be disappointed yet again, I'm happy to say, I think we finally found our winner winner chicken dinner place! We ordered the 12 piece chicken special & wow the thighs were huuugggeee!!! The chicken was well seasoned & juicy with a nice crunch. The large side of fries were nice & crispy. The medium onion rings were a little overdone. The large gravy was smooth, not too thick & had a wonderful flavour. The apple pies were your typical fast food ones (the deep-fried ones)...iykyk....(cough....cough....guilty pleasure....cough....cough). Apparently the chocolate brownie was delicious, but I wouldn't know because they were inhaled before I could get a bite. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt like the oil the fries & onion rings were cooked in was a little past its prime. Also the large fries were not as large as we thought they would be. That being said, I think we found our new fried chicken place! @inspiringfoodie

I had contacted the company almost a week ago regarding the terrible service I received last Monday evening. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt before posting a review. But they didn't even bother to reply... maybe they have already "arranged" enough good reviews not to care? Well, that evening we placed an order at the Hi Five Chicken at 8669 10th Avenue in Burnaby. But while waiting at the side for our order we realized that the number being called out had already advanced beyond our number, so we asked about it. Turns out, they gave our order instead to a delivery driver, who by that time was gone. This is usually a simple problem, happens all the time, and it should have been resolved quickly and courteously by the manager. But no! He said it wasn't his problem and that we should contact the delivery company! That is ridiculous! They gave our order to the wrong person and it is our fault?! And then the manager starts arguing with us. Instead of rectifying his simple mistake by replacing our order like any other restaurant would do (and a small order worth only $14 at that), he argues with us! I was shocked! Never in my life have I had such unprofessional and rude behaviour at a restaurant! Eventually, after perhaps 15-20 minutes, the delivery driver returns since he couldn't exactly deliver the wrong order. The manager then has one of his staff take the returned order out to us. It was cold, and we told her so. And who knows where it's been? She shrugs her shoulders. No apology, no nothing! This is reprehensible unprofessional behaviour and completely inexcusable! And as I mentioned at the beginning, I have already contacted them directly about the issue, but again no apology, no nothing! Not a company you want to give your...

edited tried this place again...not any better years later. I ordered a chicken wrap, $9 and there was such minimal Lettuce inside that i had to open it to try and find some...there were tiny bits inside, not enough for a crunch..and hard to find. I waited over 10 minutes for this order when I was told it would be only 6 mins. When I brought up the lack of filling including lettuce, the guy in the back just said "well...I added lettuce " and shrugged. I opened the wrap to show him the lack of lettuce and everyone just stared at me like i was the problem. I just wanted a proper wrap...like shown in your picture if you're hurting for ingredients...say something. Never coming back. Really not worth it and i recommend others to look elsewhere.

Slow slow slow. Been here twice, been the ONLY customers and each time it takes 15-20 minutes to get my order. Today was my daughter's birthday and I took her here before school for a special breakfast. We were told sausages would take 4-5 minutes to cook...ok np problem...20 minutes later we were still waiting on our food...and our daughter was now late for school. She had to wolf down her food and get to class quick. Was NOT impressed. The wrap also was not wrapped well and ad I was eating it everything inside fell out and I had to eat it individually. It sucked. Their coffee was definitely old and bitter...very gross you'd think that if it was going to take 20 minutes and you know the coffee is old...wouldn't you make a new batch while waiting? Don't think...
