March 2025 - we continue to order from this place and we feel bad for not making regular updates. LIFE gets busy. You folks are the best. There are a few things that make this place the best but I cannot say all that this is because I do not want it so busy that run out of all the dishes We enjoy. I guess they will keep being top place because of how big their portions are and how tasty their food is. Your missing out. Not all Osaka are the same. They privately ok owned.
March 16, 2021- I do not always get a chance to keep up with reviews about this amazing place but hands down they are in the top 5 in Vancouver in my opinion. It is not just the beautiful art and vibrant color embedded within their food, it is in their secret recipes for sauces and broths. The freshness of their sashimi has a crunch to it rather than a mushy texture like at most places. Their dishes are unique and portions large with a fair price point. I have only found 2 places in Vancouver with the BEST ponzu sauce! One cannot understand Japanese food if they do not know what Ponzu sauce is supposed to taste like. I appreciate the art and passion which is clearly evident by the quality of food they provide. They follow all health guidlines and safety protocols long before they were mandated. Great job Osaka.
This place is amazing. I do not like sharing the best places but I base my ratings at Japanese restaurants by their ponzu sauce. This place rates second in my opinion and as the best dishes that include their almost perfect recipe for ponzu. They have 3 different peppered tuna takaki, beef takaki, shocked oysters and they with customize any order. I love surf clams in ponzu. Mmm it's so good I buy it from them when I cannot make it to my favorite place. In fact they are both my favorite. These artists are excellent at their craft and their dishes are picture worthy, its just hard to take pictures when your mouth is watering and hangry sets in. If you try this place it will be hard to spend money at any other Japanese restaurant or Osaka for that matter since they are all privately owned and very different. Happy...
Read moreWarning, do not go here!!! The cashier touches your food before handing it to you. Before handing my take out food to me. I saw the server use her bare hand to grab a piece of tempura and rearranged it, pushing it down before putting on the cover for the bento box.
In addition to this, I ordered the BBQ Eel Bento today, I saw the cook take the already cooked eel out of a cabinet, uses his bare hands again to put the eel in a separate dish before putting it in the microwave. He operates the microwave using the same hand without washing, then goes back to the station to start working on what I can only assume was my sushi roll, before finally taking the eel out of the microwave and using his hands again to put it in the bento. I can understand a sushi chef using bare hands to touch food but to do all that (opening the cabinet, touching the eel, operating the microwave, rolling my sushi) without hands washing seems unsanitary.
I'm not a confrontational person so I didn't say anything, but I should have. The food itself was bad, I tried the eel out but it was bad as you can expect from micro-waved eel. After a few bites, I threw the rest out and got something else for lunch. With so many choices in the area, I don't know why anyone would go here. This is the first and only time I'm going to...
Read morei ordered delivery via just-eat in a pinch because i didn't want to walk down to the other sushi place i usually order from. let me tell u that the delivery was incredibly fast, it was actually at my house before i was. the yam tempura was AMAZINGLY HOT and crunchy, and the pieces were large. that was just the beginning; the ichiban roll inspired emotion in me, it was so good. there were actual tears beginning to happen. the takoyaki is superb (i say as i still am eating it). also, i got tuna belly nigiri, and it was delicious but i wasn't sure if its supposed to be that oily, or if thats just how otoro is.
the only flaw i found was that the regular rolls had rice that reminds me of the kind of rice that grocery store prepackaged sushi has. dry, sticky, and a bit rubbery. id suggest they work on that, but the actual contents of the rolls themselves were perfectly fine.
another thing that happened; there was an extra roll in the bag that i hadnt ordered packaged individually. normally id appreciate this, but it was a dynamite roll that looked like it had been sitting there for a while, soggy and the avocado was browning. so like... thanks, but no thanks? either way, the fish is really good, the tempura is really good, and so far, the special rolls seem to be...
