UPDATED. I ordered a sandwich today, April 22nd just before 1 PM. Ate it right away 4:30 PM projectile vomit. Felt ill for the rest of the day went to bed and woke up at 1:30 in the morning and had diarrhea. The diarrhea continued until today, April 25, I still feel sick.

I went into the store on the 24th to see if I can speak to a manager and let them know that I felt ill after eating in the establishment and I spoke to a “manager” who was young and really did not know how to handle the situation and basically ask me if I didn’t just get a flu from somewhere else. I could not believe how rude that was for anybody to say, considering I have been unbelievably ill and not been able to consume any food since eating in the establishment.

I called the number on the owners response and spoke to a co-owner in the establishment and as far as I’m concerned, the conversation was pointless, he asked me what he could do and really what can you do in this situation not like he can make me feel better or give me back the last couple days that I have spent literally in the bathroom I would not recommend this place to anybody and I definitely will not be going back! If I could give it a half a...

The sandwiches are fantastic, with super fresh, high-quality ingredients. The washroom has cute, neat decor, and the store provides limited indoor and outdoor seating.

The wait time for chicken parm is long, around 25 minutes, due to the defrozen process. The server apologized for this when the sandwich was finally done.

I hope the business can run better with more flexibility from the manager; more communication with customers if you know one item has issues; or giving customers options, like having one item handed over to a customer or suggesting customers change items. We could see servers were very anxious between the kitchen and the counter but no one stepped up to communicate with customers. Overall, the process needs to be improved, seems we are not the first review to mention it.

The location seems new, just opened a couple of months ago, and has a training process going on, so please be mindful of the waiting time but enjoy their coffee. The barista is very friendly...

Missing ingredient - Ordered a custom panini where you build your own. The attendant at the sandwich bar (who was very kind) told me the cheese would be put on afterwards and told me to wait for my order to be called. Sandwich came without my cheese selection, which was a sad realization once I got home. Taste was good, but would have been better with the cheese.

They are popular so expect a long wait. I was in-and-out by 15 minutes. The queues are confusing as one side is for ordering and the other side is waiting for food. The payment is also odd as you get told to pay for your order, but unclear if you pay before you pick up your sandwich or after. Lines would clear faster if they can optimize this process.

Quality is good. Service is there, and I can tell the attendants are trying hard despite busy queues. There is room for improvement.

I am sad they forgot my cheese and may return once they figure...

I’ve been a local and a big fan of La Grotta on Commercial for years, so I was excited when I heard they opened a sister spot in Burnaby. I decided to try the meatball sandwich, but unfortunately, it wasn’t a great experience. The sandwich took about 17 minutes to prepare, even though no other orders were being made at the time. When it finally came out, the sauce was hot and flavourful, but the meatballs themselves were not even warm. To make matters worse, a few were still pink inside, which was concerning. I wasn’t able to finish it. On the positive side, the staff were friendly. One of the workers checked in on my meal, and when I shared my concerns, he was genuinely apologetic and receptive to the feedback. That said, the food itself was disappointing, and I don’t see myself coming back. It may have just been a one-off situation, but for me, it was a letdown.

I’ve been away for 2 years so not sure if this place is new or? Usually I’m getting ice cream at Glenburn or Pho at Chao mai. Saw a huge line and decided to give it a go. Owners are Italian which was a good sign. North Burnaby use to be little Italy back in the day. Let’s bring more of these places back! Decided to go with a sandwich. The meatballs were literally made minutes ago so I was lucky. The “polpette”were well seasoned and savoury. Loads of cheese on a toasty bun. Would have liked a little bit of greens ( arugula? ) or parsley on there but is that sac-religious in Italian cuisine? I get it, i’ll stop eating Subway and go grab the real thing from now on. Lastly, items were reasonable priced ( for Oh Canada at least )
