Abbie's Bakery — Restaurant in Calgary

When I Googled "bakery", Abbies Bakery popped up right away. It is close to my home so I thought I'd go and check them out. It's a hidden little gem of a place. ❤ I have a guest staying with us from the US and his favourite is apple pie. I didn't want the typical grocery store made pie either which is why I made an effort to look elsewhere. Abbies Bakery did not disappoint! The pie was delicious! It reminded me of my dad's homemade baking when he ran his restaurant back in the 60s. It was just the right amount of sweetness (not too sweet) nor was the filling runny or too gooey. Flaky, easy to cut pastry. I can see how other reviews might say there isn't much inventory but when you are not use to fresh baking with NO PRESERVATIVES, I can see that the store my appear underwhelming but the whole point is that it is BAKED FRESH DAILY. Inventory is not meant to sit on the shelves for very long. I loved her pies so much, I will call a day ahead to make sure that what I want will be there because the last time it was sold out :( Both Abbie and her staff are super friendly and willing to have a chat. I can tell she loves her craft and appreciates the people she serves. She is a serious business owner! Come and have a look or should I say a taste. I have to say Abbie's is a hidden gem! My absolute favourite so far is the strawberry rhubarb pie! It has the perfect amout of sweet and tart flavour. The pastry is soft and flaky! I've tried rhe cinnamon buns (I had mine with no icing) but there are iced cinnamon buns too. Again, not too sweet, a good balance of flavour. Cinnamon raisin bread. My mom loved it. As she said you can actually see and taste raisins, and it's great toasted. My kids liked the hotdog wrapped in a bun, husband loves the apple crumble pie! The first time I went in, I timed it right as the cheese buns were literally just baked. Even a couple of days later, still soft and full of cheesy goodness. There's loads to choose from and the second time I went in, there wasn't any of the pie I wanted but I asked, and a few hours later, boom! Freshly baked fruit pie!! I 💯 will be back to try new baked goods!! Thanks Abbie!! February 2025- My goodness, I sure missed that strawberry rhubarb pie! Soooo delicious! They ran out of the cinnamon raisin bread, but I can see why because it's yummy. I also picked up some cheese buns, and they are so soft and cheesy! Next time I'll pick up that apple crumble pie! Abbie's Bakery is an excellent bakery and I suggest that everyone goes here. All the baked goods were incredible. We stopped here en route to Banff (as it's only 10 minutes from the airport) and not too far off the freeway. We loved our purchases so much, we stopped again on our way back to the airport a few days later! We got the following (and would highly recommend to everyone): Meat pies, rye bread, sourdough bread, strawberry rhubarb pie, lemon pastry, blueberry pastry, and an apple strudel. The pie was still warm, and was definitely one of the best pies we've ever eaten. Everything was to die for, so we will definitely come back next time we're in Calgary. Also, the customer service was exceptional; they were warm, friendly, passionate, and helpful.
