Al's Pizza & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Calgary

Hello again......well I am officially adding to my previous review. The owner Al, went for holidays for several months leaving his kids in charge. During this time it seems he went through a complete staff change and probably a recipe change .....crust is not the same anymore. So The last three times we have gone have been the worst service I've encountered there in a looooong time. We've been going there for probably 15 years. Tonight Nov 4th 2018. We arrived at 6:45 pm, restaurant was less than half full. They said take a seat and we did.......over ten minutes went by and no waitress no menus. Finally she arrived .....we already knew what we wanted so we ordered immediately and off she went......well over ten minutes went by and no drinks yet. Two other tables sat down, ordered, and got their drinks etc ahead of us. We finally get our drinks. We drink our drinks completely waiting for our food. No waitress comes by to check up I physically have to set my empty glass on the divider to get a refill....25 minutes pass the other two tables get their food etc and they start eating. Another fifteen minutes the other two tables are almost done eating......still no food !!!!!!! The other tables are getting ready to leave......finally our food arrives. We eat our food until we're full, there's food leftover so we ask for a take home box.......ten minutes still no box. My eleven year old actually says.....Dad, how long does it take to bring a box ???? I say " I know, right ?" My son gets up and says I'll go get it......man is he awesome!!!!! We paid our bill.....waitress got her $2 tip and I'm going to visit Al tomorrow.

I lived in Calgary since 1976. I have never had to go to Ranchlands for anything really. Recently I saw a media post ad of Al's Pizza and Steakhouse in the community of Ranchlands, they have been there for 35+ years! My friends and I decided to check it out last night. It was not really busy, so we got a table right away. I have to say this place is a popular neighborhood place. When I was there, a lot of takeouts and deliveries. The staff are very attentive and friendly. It's a quaint family owned business. The owner came to say hi and made sure everything was OK. The amount of food was HUGE and the prices are superb! I frequent places like Capri's or Atlas for just a quick dinner. The prices as usually rise as years has gone by. I feel Al's prices are still in the 2018-20. I got a New York Steak 10oz with salad, spaghetti with meat sauce and veggies for $29. My friends ordered seafood linguini, another steak 10oz, manicotti and Chicken parmigiana and a 8 inch specialty pizza. My bill for 3 meals (steak, manicotti, pizza) and drinks with alcohol was $80. 😮. The amount of food that was given was ridiculous! Left overs, left overs.

The steak was actually done to perfection. Rare was rare and medium rare was just that. Problem for me was they had no side sauces like peppercorn or even a demi-glaze. The meat sauce lacked flavor, so I took that home and add some stuff to it. The pizza was great, the seafood linguini was a huge hit. Lots of seafood on it, manicotti and chicken parm was well loved. The amount of garlic toasts was abundant. We will for sure visit again, if you have not check it out. A nice price point. Oh, when we asked for spaghetti instead of potatoes, there were no uncharged, like other places I've been....

I had a disappointing experience with Al’s Restaurant last night. I placed an order for my party of 20 people, personally visiting the restaurant in the afternoon to ensure everything was in order. Unfortunately, what followed was awful. I had scheduled the delivery for 8 pm. nothing arrived till 8:30 pm when I called the restaurant, only to be reassured that my order was on its way. I called them again at 9 pm, hoping for some clarity on the situation. Shockingly, I was informed that my order wasn't even in their system!! Are you kidding me?? Why did you confirmed it’s coming half an hour ago then?? Half of my guests were kids so I had to resort to feeding them hotdogs which was not what I had planned or expected for my gathering. My food was finally delivered at 10 pm with I guess the owner. To make matters worse, the compensation offered for the restaurant's mistake was unbelievable. They only offered a meager 10% discount for their failure to deliver the food on time and for causing so much inconvenience and stress. I am deeply disappointed with the way this situation was handled and cannot recommend Al’s Restaurant to anyone looking for reliable and...
